That reminds me. I found a really old catalog in the basement last year, I was gonna scan all the pages with video game stuff on it. That's so fun to look at. Especially the prices on things!

I was once cleaning out a huge pile of newspapers from a building, most of them dating from the early-mid 90's. It was interesting pulling out fliers for places like Circuit City, and seeing them demand $300 for a PS1, $400 for a Saturn. And hundreds of dollars for TVs I could get for $35 at Salvation Army now.

Also, the newspaper comics back then were way better.

The funny thing is how they describe the source material more like they were taking a random guess at it.

When the SNES came out in Belgium most games costed 3200 Belgian franks, roughly 80 euro or 115 USD. Street Fighter II Turbo costed almost 4000 Belgian franks when it came out. I once saw a soccer game advertised for 5000 Belgian franks in one of those mail order catalogues. Which was insane, even for our standards...

Coincidentally that's about what people in Japan were paying for SNES games too. US gamers have had it good on pricing for a long time.

I remember $50-55 being a common price for a Target type of store, but if you went into some smaller chains or single shops, the prices could be much higher. I remember seeing $70+ in a store called Saturday Matinee. I kinda remember buying Castlevania IV in that store for $65.
