Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I was once cleaning out a huge pile of newspapers from a building, most of them dating from the early-mid 90's. It was interesting pulling out fliers for places like Circuit City, and seeing them demand $300 for a PS1, $400 for a Saturn. And hundreds of dollars for TVs I could get for $35 at Salvation Army now.

Also, the newspaper comics back then were way better.

I didn't know about that. The "OMG The British R Coming" one cracked me up.

I've got an old issue of nintendo power that mentions the MSRP of a lot of SNES games.

can you believe that Barbie Super Model on SNES had a MSRP of $59.99?

It's going for about $3-4 on ebay now and it's still not worth it.

haha, Ranma 1/2 hard battle is listed here. MSRP of $64.99 (holy shit that's expensive).

The funny thing is how they describe the source material more like they were taking a random guess at it.

"The characters come from a Japanese comic book about a family whose dad teaches martial arts. The kids become masters and thrash would-be bullies."

Sounds like they came to that conclusion after looking at a handful of screenshots.

SNES games were just that expensive when new back then. I bought Super Metroid on sale the day it came out at Target and paid $55-60 after tax.

When the SNES came out in Belgium most games costed 3200 Belgian franks, roughly 80 euro or 115 USD. Street Fighter II Turbo costed almost 4000 Belgian franks when it came out. I once saw a soccer game advertised for 5000 Belgian franks in one of those mail order catalogues. Which was insane, even for our standards...

Coincidentally that's about what people in Japan were paying for SNES games too. US gamers have had it good on pricing for a long time.
 (FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

I remember $50-55 being a common price for a Target type of store, but if you went into some smaller chains or single shops, the prices could be much higher. I remember seeing $70+ in a store called Saturday Matinee. I kinda remember buying Castlevania IV in that store for $65.
