I recently won a fantastic condition copy of Dragon Force (Saturn) on Ebay for a brilliant price. I couldn't really believe how cheap I got it compared to some of the other auctions, but I had been wanting to get this game for ages now, and didn't want to pay too much. Seems my perseverance paid off finally.
Now I've finally got the game, I'm wondering just how about to get into it? It looks really awesome, but the bast array of options and menus is really daunting. I feel a tad dumb, but I'm not really sure what exactly I'm supposed to be doing or how to get started. I haven't done anything yet, just started and got to the map.
I've got the instruction manual and have read it through, but is there any advice that some of you could offer me please? If some of you have the game, then any information and support would be really appreciated thanks. Maybe I'm just lazy these days, but I not good at having to spend ages working out what I'm supposed to do in games. Especially in what seems like a complex strategy game.
I've also thought about looking for walkthroughs to get me started, but not sure if I want to 'ruin' anything.
I've began the game as Tristan Empire. Thanks.

Re: Dragon Force help
if your playing for first time i wouldnt consider using a guides or antyhing. Just play it trial on error to learn the game.
I played this game for the first time last year and i did it without consorting to guides. The game is not that linear for say, but its all the fun if you go in it and learn it. Thats why this game have good replay values because even ifyou dont succeed with the best ending you can take another wack at it and choose better routes.

Re: Dragon Force help
Just start raiding castles and taking over the map. The story will come lol.
Some pro tips are:
Deploy your army and fight outside the castle instead of being attacked while inside, this will keep the castle level from decreasing after a battle.
If you DID fight inside the castle and all enemy generals aren't captured after a battle and turn around and run then learn to immediately pause the game as you get control back (this will happen right after the castle level decrease message) and deploy your army to attack them on the run while they are hurt and have little to no soldiers.
Leave captured generals in prison, there are a lot of crummy ones you don't need.
Save every time before you return to the map. If one of your generals deserts you then you can reload the save and give that general an item or an award to keep them from running out. Or, let them run, because until you give them enough faith coins or whatever they'll keep doing it if you use them to battle and don't reward them.

What a completely obvious tip I never thought of. I was constantly getting overwhelmed with the amount of generals I was trying to manage.
Re: Dragon Force help
yup, almost none of the extraneous generals are worth recruiting. Just let them rot in prison. Once you progress far enough in the game and the other monarchs join up with you all of their significant generals will automatically enter the ranks of your army anyway.saturnfan wrote:deathsled wrote:Leave captured generals in prison, there are a lot of crummy ones you don't need.

god im jonesing for some DF. I might fire up a game tonight actually.
I am SO stoked for the DF2 translation project. However, I still haven't gotten all there is out of DF1. I have only beaten the game as Junon, Wein, and Mikhal so far. I have a lot of different ways to play the game still.

this statement confuses me. There is only one ending to the game (unless you count your monarch losing during a duel and getting a game over screen). Either you make it or you don't lol. I can't think of anything you can do aside from stop playing the game that affects the ending of the game.
Re: Dragon Force help
Thanks for the tips and advice guys. I'm playing right now, and just won my first battle and took over a castle.
Still not entirely sure what I'm doing, or how I won that battle, but oh well
I'll get the hang of it soon enough I'm sure.

Sometimes I forget what an awesome game Dragon Force is. I wish there were more strategy games like it. Has anyone ever played Soldenerschild for Saturn? It looks very similar to Dragon Force but I haven't gotten the chance to give it a shot myself yet.

I hadn't played the game since making this thread. I've been busy, what can I say?
