Does anybody still play Dreamcast online?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Post by RyaNtheSlayA »

I was curious cause i would need the broadband adapter (which goes for ALOT of money). Also do you have to pay to play Unreal Tournament and other games or just some like Fantasy Star universe, does sega even still support online? I am clueless so plz no "ur teh noobz" comments plz.

ur teh noobz
Seriously though, I believe that Sega killed all of their game servers years ago but, some people have created their own servers for some of the games online. I never played DC online but that was the last I heard from my friend who played a lot of DC online~

Unreal T on the Dreamcast no longer has any online play.

Some games like Quake 3 and Maximum Pool can still be played on private servers. Broadband AND dialup.

Other games like PSO use hacked servers. So even though you can't "officially" play Phantasy Star Online anymore you still can.

List of games that still have online functions:

Many people use the Broadband adapter for homebrew editing as well.

It's a toss up if you should spend the cash on one or not.

Personally if I found one for a decent price I would buy it for Quake 3 and PSO. Plus it would be a cool collectors item. I might someday try to do some homebrew gaming as well.

You don't need the broadband adaptor to play online. You can set up a Dialin service on any PC with a dial up modem.

Just to point out a lot of the Dreamcast online multiplayer games are also avalible for the PC. Many I imagine can still be played online via lan or direct IP connection today. You might want to consider looking into those options. PSO's PC version can also connect to the aforementioned unofficial server also.

There's also PSO vers 1 and 2 for Xbox. Not sure the status of the online servers as it's seperate to xbox live. (you need both xbox live and hunters license to play)

I play all the time :D Played a couple games of 4x4 Evo last night and I'm playing PSO today. Also, it's better to just stick with dial-up instead of using the BBA, I've barely ever seen lag over dial-up on Dreamcast.

normally i would just use the phone line but problem is, we dont have any phone jacks in the guest room, but i have a wireless expander for broadband so i could play online without taking it upstairs.

Are there still people logging in every night to play PSO online on DC? Isn't that amazing, I remember being extremely addicted to online PSO when it first came out, using a free juno dial up account!
