Holy crap. Is that what they're up to now? I mean, I know there's a lot when I go to the store, but I obviously haven't been paying attention. When it comes to Batman I've always just stuck to Detective Comics.
Gamerforlife wrote:Think it's pretty obvious who the number 1 DC character is now. Sorry Superman.

I'm sure we can thank the movies for that.
Gamerforlife wrote:As for Wonder Woman, she was only ever a part of the "big three" in name only.
And I've always liked the WW comics. It's one of the few series I'm consistently happy with.

The only time I've ever enjoyed Wonder Woman was during George Perez's run in the late 80s/early 90s. And that's because it was very Mythologically-based.

I still feel its mythology-based. It's probably the reason why I still enjoy it so much. Even if the influences have toned down a bit. The last run sort of bogged down in the middle, but I feel it picked back up again nicely. I'm curious to see what they do with the new run.

So I'm pretty new to the Batman scene. Before this the only Batman exposure I got was through the movies, the cartoon, and the JLA. Now I'm diving head-first into Batman.

I'm not particularly fond of Adam West or anything inspired by his interpretation of Batman. Nor am I particularly fond of Robin-centric stuff.

I'm wondering what else I need to get. Here's what I've already got:

-Batman: A Death in the Family
-Batman: The Killing Joke
-Batman: Knightfall
-Batman: Knightsend
-Batman: Sword of Azrael
-Batman: Year One

Thanks.

dont remember the name of it cause I read it a long time ago.

but there was a DC comics elseworld comic, where Kal-El landed in Gotham City and was rescued by the waynes.... which leads to a cool mash up of heroes. If you catch my drift.

I'm guessing it was early 90's. It was lent to me, but I had to give it back. I dont remember the title of it but I do remember some of the story. When You are 11 years old and you see the awesome mash-up, it makes your Imagination come alive!

Speeding Bullets. I actually already have that one because I'm a big fan of the John Byrne/Dan Jurgens era of Superman.

Long Halloween is a big one that you're missing. Dark Knight Returns too.

Yeah, Dark Night Returns is HUGE omission. That would be number one on some people's lists. I like Year One better though and that's actually getting an animated version very soon

I would also recommend Mad Love. It's the perfect Harley Quinn story and it puts her relationship with the Joker in a bit of a disturbing light. It kind of reminds me of real life domestic abuse. The story is also pretty damn funny at times, since it is a Harley story after all. They did this story on the animated series, but the original comic version is slightly better.

You also need Knightfall, which I also need to read myself actually. This is actually reminding me of a few notable books I haven't checked out yet.

I think you're already familiar with JLA Tower of Babel, another great one

If you don't care about Robin, I suppose you can skip a Lonely Place of Dying and a Death in the Family

Hush is another one that both you and myself need to read

I heard Batman & Dracula: Red Rain is great, and much better than the silly version of the story they did on that newer cartoon called The Batman, which was no where near as good as Batman the Animated Series

Arkham Asylum is a notable one, but I don't personally like it. However, the Arkham Asylum video game did actually borrow some stuff from here

I gotta give props to IGN, they actually have a good list here

The Dark Knight Returns is probably the best comic book I've ever read, even better than The Watchmen. It's also got the best version of Robin I've ever seen. They really need to make a movie adaptation of it.

Speaking of Batman, the Year One movie is apparently going to have an animated short based on Catwoman, voiced by Eliza Dushku

Looks like they are also working on another Justice League animated movie called Justice Leage Doom
