What's the first video game to talk?

Post by J T »

The earliest I can remember is Gorf (1981):

I used to love the part where he would laugh at you when you died. It just felt so heartlessly evil coming from that tinny robot voice.

"Prepare yourelf for annihilation, space cadet. ha ha ha ha."

Is there anything earlier?

Certainly another early talkie. KLOV says 80 for Berzerk and 81 for Wizard.

Wizards of Wor and Sinistar are often cited as the first, but like Hobie said, Berzerk is older. But what Hobie forgot was a little known title called Stratovox (aka Speak and Rescue).

Gogo Mamequest.

Granted Berzerk and Stratovox probably came out weeks apart.

This is what happens when you try to play through every game supported in Mame.
