So would Swap Magic still be the way to go considering it'll be relatively light use of burns/imports, or should I do an HDD mod? I do have a 80GB just sitting around.
80 gb ain't gonna cut it buddy. I thought 200 gb was enough when i modded my PS2. Cost me 60 bucks extra. When it got home, i couldn't put all the games I want to play on it. Sold the 200 gb and bought a maxtor 500 gb. Still need more room. I guess I just like to put all my games in it so that I don't have to put the discs in. Yeah, I am that lazy. HA HA HA.
Anyway, if you have the extra dough, I say modded with HDD all the way. You won't regret it. As for the HDD, you can buy it at any store nowaday and install it yourself. Most maxtor should fit fine. Any other brand, just check the compatibility list. It's pretty cheap too. I got my 500gb for 100 dollars at Fry's Electronic.
I have a 500GB Seagate in mine, but still, I doubt he will need much space. He said it would just casually be used for imports and burns.
you can always shink the game down by removing the dummy data. then send it to the hdd thru a pc cat patch cable.
Flak, if you got the network adaptor and hdd ready for the fat model, you could just exploit the thing, if you plan on just running games off the HDD that is. Its a little hard work at first, but once you got it setup right, all you do is leave a unique PS1 game in the drive at all times, boot it, it will then boot an app of your choice on the mem card, (like HDLoader) and then you're good to go.
