A good point. I was wondering why most HD LCD, LED and Plasma do not have a SVideo input. Now I see why, maybe the upscaling checker problems is covered by the blur of the composite cables.

Playing PS1 games via my PS2 (Hooked up using Component) looks utterly amazing. (Have to use some homebrew for it to run, but looks awesome).

Then I just sold the extras, but this gave gave me high quality s-video cables for every system I needed.

Not saying its a cable issue though. I think it probably is upscaling issues.

Personally, I'd rather have checker problems than the fuzz and blur of composite.

I find a blurry picture and a screen door effect equally unappealing.

I wish I had an LCD TV to test my systems on to see what's really going on here.
But then, I think I also play on older TVs for a reason... they are more accommodating to older systems.

S-video is supposed to be (and is) a better option than composite though. I just can't believe that it would have a negative effect on the picture.

I still stand by my bad cable theory (based on experience with my Tube TVs). Like I've already stated, I've noticed the same problems even on them (with bad cables).

Does emwearz have a SNES to test it out with. I'm still betting on upscaling issues (especially if the TV can't display 480i without upscaling it to 1080p).

You should try to get new cables, but I think you're gonna find that old consoles look like shit nobody how you connect them on HDTVs. Thats the dirtly little secret about HDTVs, SD stuff looks like shit.

Please note that there are many, MANY horrible SNES-type s-video cables out there. These cables actually derive their s-video signal from the composite and they look like ass in s-video as a result. You can do this yourself by cutting open a composite and s-video cable, tying together the grounds and then just connecting both the luma and chrom from the s-video directly to the composite video cable. It can look ultra-sharp, but ultra shitty at the same time. I discovered this a looooooong time ago when playing with the video output of the Genesis. This is partially Nintendo's fault for having that same jack on the back of some consoles that don't support true s-video (I think the SNES 2 doesn't, can't remember which ones don't). The crappy third party companies (are there any other kind?) that make these cables want it to work on EVERY SNES system, so they cheap out and it gets its signal from composite no matter what SNES, N64 or Gameccube you use it on.

Bottom line: You have to be extremely careful when buying s-video cables for SNES systems. It's very likely you will get shafted. A true s-video cable will give you no video when hooked up to a SNES 2 or whichever is the half-assed Nintendo console that doesn't allow s-video.
