IT the novel is definitely far superior to the movie.
Not that the movie can't be enjoyed, but I say if you want to experience this story, you should read the book. Give it the time it deserves.
On another note since bikeage mentioned it, The Stand is also fantastic, though its even longer than IT.
I have to say though, when I read The Stand, I nearly quit later on when my favorite character was killed off. I was really attached to that character, and it was hard to continue without them.
Hell, I named my dog after the Irish Setter in that book, Kojak.

That's why I always hesitate when I go to read a Stephen King book. He has a tendency to knock off the characters I like.CFFJR wrote:I have to say though, when I read The Stand, I nearly quit later on when my favorite character was killed off. Re: Stephen King novels
While I can't say that I have read It, (my mom and uncle said it was really good, and the ending was rubbish) the few books I have read by him were really quite good. The one's I read were Cujo, Carrie, Pet Sematary, The Shining, and Salem's Lot. All of them were good fun reads. If you want to read something shorter, Carrie is pretty short. Especially compared to It. I really liked Pet Sematary too. The Shining is good too, but is actually quite different from the classic film. While I do love the book, the film was quite good, and perhaps better than the book. (Stanley Kubrick is one of the best film directors ever) You really can't beat Jack Nicholson.

Re: Stephen King novels
I've been interested in reading some king for awhile. Luckily my aunt is a HUGE fan and has nearly a complete set of his books. She gave me her duplicates and it was a pretty big lot including some I really want to read such as -The shining, IT, Pet Semetary and others. I'll post pictures when I get the chance to show the collection she gave me.
