Should I start with Shining Force 1 or 2?
I'm wanting to get into the Shining Force series but I'm not sure if I should start with the first or second one. Any advice?

Start with the first one. The second one is larger and grander, so you wanna start with the first.

Okay, how long would you say it takes to get through it?MrPopo wrote:Start with the first one. The second one is larger and grander, so you wanna start with the first.

I'll add that Shining Force 2 is a significantly better game. Unless your aim is to have them all under your belt, I would say SF 1 is skip-able.

I'd say each mission is about 5-15 minutes to get through, and there's 30 battles. Add in a bit of time for the town sequences.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Okay, how long would you say it takes to get through it?MrPopo wrote:Start with the first one. To compare, Shining Force 2's battle lengths are about the same, but there's 43 battles required and there are several optional battles as well.

I definitely suggest playing the first one. If you play Shining Force II prior to the first I think your experiences with the second installment would affect your Shining Force play through in a detrimental manner (it's like downgrading somewhat).

If I recall correctly (yes, I actually typed out every word instead of IIRC because I live on the edge. I'm cRaZy!) Shining Force 2 references the story of Shining Force 1. So if you play through part 2 first, you'll be all "WTF are they talking about?" whereas if you have played through part 1 first you'll be in-the-know... one of the cool kids.

In this case I'll go with the first. 2 definitely looks and sounds better but I may as well get the whole story.Redifer wrote:If I recall correctly (yes, I actually typed out every word instead of IIRC because I live on the edge. IIRC (I like to be safe)... The two games on the Game Gear (remade together on the Sega CD - known as Shining Force CD) bridges the story between the first two games on the Genesis.Redifer wrote:If I recall correctly (yes, I actually typed out every word instead of IIRC because I live on the edge. So the most correct order would be SF1 -> SF CD -> SF2?
