Japanese Dreamcast questions

Post by sbk »

My friend just told me he had a Japanese Dreamcast with two controllers but no power cord and he wants to sell it and knows I am into collecting but he doesn't know what the price is and I want to be fair. So I am going to look online and see what I can find but I figured the best place to gain knowledge was the experts here. Here is the main questions:

1. What is a good price for this?

2. On the power cord- Can I use the american power cord or do i need to order a Japanese one?

I need this info asap so i can close on this. I appreciate all the help I have gotten on this site already. You guys are amazing and know your your shit.

Thanks for the help!

You can find US DCs for $20-40. I guess slightly more for a Japanese one depending on what it comes with. I defer to someone else's idea on that one.

The US DC uses a round & square cord like a Saturn and PS2. A Japanese DC uses a round & round plug that looks more like an infinity symbol. This is a very generic cord that boom boxes and other things use too. It should be easy to find a generic replacement.

What are the conditions of the Dreamcast? Is it yellowed? Test it. I would give around $40-$50 for a japanese one if it comes with both controllers and working 100%
Thanks everyone...

He bought it in Japan when he and his Fiance went there for vacation last year. I will say he has never tested it out because of his marriage falling apart it got push to the side. So it is untested and you can say that it is in OK condition. It only comes with two controllers and the av cords.

I bought mine for $30 from japangamestock. Shipping sucked, but there is no real difference between regions. The powercord is the same as well. So I would say 30-40 for the system.

Thank you all for the help. We just agreed on 40 bucks if it works. Hopefully it works because this is going to be awesome for me.

It's an awesome console. Check out the racketboy store. Racketboy has VMUs and power cables. If you can afford it get the VGA cable too.
Thanks everyone...

Yep, $40 is fair, up to $50 is getting toward the higher end. Power cables for that system are a dime a dozen, no worries there.

The $27 or whatever it is for the VGA upgrade pays for itself the first time you play. Order one. Then play for 20 minutes w/composite. Then go to VGA. Then come back and nag on those who refuse to pay for the upgrade.

Lots of great stuff for DC-J. Congrats.

Unless it changed on a later revision of the J-DC, it is different. Round/round versus round/square for the US.

Now I just have to get some Japanese Dreamcast games. I wonder how much the Godzilla game is going to cost me.
