Bugs n glitches

Post by D.D.D. »

I really hate what gaming has become on the current generation; buggy releases with hopes for patches soon.

The worst part of this is that, companies think that shoddy QA is acceptable as is patching games down the road.

Stuff like this is what makes me glad I'm waiting a bit longer before getting a PS3 or 360.

I think this is a problem of the online age. Devs get lazy and decide rather than testing the game rigorously like the days of yesteryear, they would rather simply patch it later. It's a damn shame really.

I think part of the problem these days is the number of different models for the PS3 and Xbox 360 plus all those various firmwares. Still you think these things would be caught in testing....

I agree. I think this is more of the likely caused of the problem, too many different versions of a console with too many different firmware. You have to understand, these companies can only do so much. I am pretty sure that they do rigorous QA testing, especially if they are big companies. I sympathize with the companies as well as the gamers as these seem to be a routine occurence as of late, but I for one rather have patches than a messed up glitchy games that can't be dealt with otherwise.

Even though newer games seem to have more bugs, im glad that now they can patch them if they do have a major one, old games, you might get a rerelease (PSO V2 dreamcast) but otherwise you just had to deal with it.
Older. Not wiser.

Yeah I could deal with it but I'd really much rather not so.
I'd rather wait until the game has a patch or a re-issued disc or something. Just like I'd love to get MGS4 but you just know that in a year-ish there's gonna be MGS4: Geriatric Suppliment Edition and I'll want that one just like Substance and whatever MGS3:pt2 was called. Not that I expect MGS4 to be buggy but that I don't wanna buy the same game twice anymore either.

It really feels like I'm going to get a PS3 or 360 towards the end of their lifecyles as hopefully the games I want will be patched or re-pressed with patches. It just sucks to have to wait so long to play something that I'd really like to play now.

D.D.D. Waiting for a year to play MGS4??? You sure have control over yourself man. Like you, I do worry about the double dipping of MGS4. I wouldn't have pre-ordered if they didn't have the "Limited Edition", and I don't even have a PS3 yet. Like I said, just supporting Kojima for his hard work. He has given me much joy in my gaming over the years.

Yes, I am a man of great patience but like you said, the MGS games have been monumental in terms of satisfaction for me over the years and I'm just being paranoid that something, just something is going to go wrong like GTAIV and wreck the experience for me... That and I'm no longer willing to spend $400+ for a system just to play a game (well there are actually 5 I want to play on the PS3).

The ltd.ed is neat and all but it just doesn't seem to be worth it as not really any of what's included (IIRC) is for the actual game; like interviews, bonus items etc... If history repeats or rather Kojima, we'll have another version in a year or so with bonus game content and that will be worth it to me. ;)

as far as i'm concerned, these new consoles (namely the 360 and PS3) are too much like home computers. what happens to home computers? THEY CRASH!

I'll stick with my sega systems, thanks :)

Good luck getting your system in 2012/13 and having to wait 3 days just for all the updates and and patches to be downloaded! It's cringeworthy buying a game today that was out roughly at launch and having to go through 2 lots of extremely long downloading and patching to be then faced by an ass crippling 45 minute wait for the patch to enable multiplayer to be download and then a further 15 minutes for it to be installed. (i'm looking at you Motorstorm!).
