Unless you want to trade me your Turbo Grafx 16 for my Master System
Is the Sega Master system worth owning.

Just for the sake of shelf space, I'd get a PBC instead of the Master System. Also, keep the TG-16. It's an excellent system.
That may have been sarcasm. What games do you have for the Master system, is it a model 1 or 2?

Re: Is the Sega Master system worth owning.
Just wondering does the Master system have region lock on it, could I play pal games on a NTSC system.
Re: Is the Sega Master system worth owning.
Is the Genesis / Power Base Converter setup how you can play Phantasy Star with it taking advantage of the hardware for better music or something? Or maybe it was a different region release of Phantasy Star, I forget...

I know, some of the later games like Lion King and Daffy in hollywood look awesome for a 8-bit system, starting to wonder if buying the 32X first was a bad decision.Dup wrote:Oh hey guys, I'm just here to tell you all how RADTACULAR the SMS is.

The FM synthesis music is only on the Japanese SMS. The US SMS doesn't have the hardware for the it, so playing it on the PBC is identical to playing it on the SMS.Xeogred wrote:Is the Genesis / Power Base Converter setup how you can play Phantasy Star with it taking advantage of the hardware for better music or something? Re: Is the Sega Master system worth owning.
Other classic games I don't think have been mentioned yet:
Alex Kidd in Shinobi World
Asterix (not Asterix and the Great Rescue)
Dynamite Dux
Fantasy Zone 1-2
Kenseiden
Master of Darkness
Rastan
Zillion
Other games you might be interested in but I wouldn't list as must-haves:
Kung Fu Kid (pretty fun, controls nicely, but really easy)
The Ninja (I would rate this as a must-have personally, but not everyone likes it)
Power Strike 1-2 (only played briefly, popular among Master System fans)
Psycho Fox (I would rate this as a must-have personally, but not everyone likes it)
Rambo/Secret Command (co-op)
Spellcaster (a lot of people recommend this one, but I haven't gotten into it myself)
Star Wars
There were others I thought about listing, but the list was getting too long =-p
Then there are the awesome lightgun games. I think it is generally agreed that most of them are worth playing, but these are all I've played:
Gangster Town
Operation Wolf
Rescue Mission
Safari Hunt
Also, I personally prefer the music in the US Phantasy Star to the Japanese one. For comparison:

Me too! I don't enjoy most RPG games, but I thoroughly enjoyed Phantasy Star. It's my favourite Phantasy Star game.Mr.White555 wrote: Phantasy Star is a fantastic game. As an armband hater of JRPGs I still love this game.

Re: Is the Sega Master system worth owning.
The master system is mostly region free. All North American, PAL and Brazilian games should work on any master system machine, but Japanese Mark III carts won't because they are the wrong shape.ATARI800XLfan wrote:Just wondering does the Master system have region lock on it, could I play pal games on a NTSC system.
Worth noting that the Master System II ditches the card slot too, but I personally don't think it's a huge loss.
