You can really appreciate the amount of work and care put into all of the practical effect work from those movies in the new transfers. It's just great.
I really should get around to watching my own BD set soon. I re-watched Alien for the umpteenth on DVD this summer when i showed it to my undergraduate film class, and they pretty much all thought it was lame.

Alien is a masterpiece of the sci-fi AND horror genres, and is head and shoulders above the rest. That said, I actually like ALL FOUR of the films in the quadrilogy and would go so far as to rank 4 above 3.
Those... those philistines!

You really like 4 better than 3? Mind if I ask why?

It has been some time since I've watched either in its entirety, but I recall that I liked the general pacing, direction, and effects of 4 more than I did 3. 3 had better set design and a marginally better plot, but I actually liked the stuff in 4 that a lot of people don't (the hybrid alien, the clones, etc.).

Going strictly off of memory and using my standard scale, I'd probably rank them thus:
Alien - 5/5
Aliens - 4/5
Alien3 - 2.5/5
Alien Resurrection - 3/5

And, for fun:
AVP - 2.5/5
AVP2 - 1/5

Predator - 4.5/5
Predator 2 - 2.5/5
Predators - 2.5/5

You can't be serious. lol, man I thought 4 was godawful, very tough to get through. The dialogue, the action sequences, everything.

3 I actually liked a good bit though, but as an Alien movie? Eh, kind of hated how it dumped all over the ending to Aliens to an extent. Honestly I kind of saw 3 as an offshoot of Riddick, since that's what it really felt like to me. I think I would have liked it more if Hicks was the main character (originally intended from what I hear) instead of Ripley as well. She was definitely a little out of character, but still pretty good acting in this one.

On that note, I think Riddick is pretty legit. Love the movies and I think the games even do a better job at handling his character, great sci-fi right there.

I haven't seen anyone label anyone else a "square" for not partaking since 6th grade.
Wow. Doing drugs at 12, that's pretty dumb.

DRIVE. It surprised me how well it turned out. It's not a must see, but I would recommend it for sure. A few things about it bothered me, but since it's fairly new I'll bring those issues up later.

Neither 3 or 4 are very good, but I liked 4 slightly better.

3 as an offshoot of Riddick?! It came out 8 years before, and before Vin was a known entity...

The Riddick films are meh. It is sad that they can pass for "great sci-fi" in this day and age. I couldn't get into the games (I tried), as I don't like stealth elements in my FPS.

Pretty sure he didn't mean that literally :P

No one's gonna take your opinions on sci-fi seiously now that you've admitted to liking Alien Resurrection.

lol

And yeah I heard there's two new Riddick movies in the works, they might be a little independent being funded by Vin and the Riddick director himself.

Love the Riddick games myself, they're among the few FPS's I've played where I don't like using guns at all, the stealth makes you feel so badass.
