Question for CIB collectors.

Post by AppleQueso »

For those of you who collect games CIB, specifically cardboard boxed games, what's the minimum condition you'll accept the box in? Are you fine with a shelf worn and kinda beaten up box, or do you specifically look for ones with no visible wear?

And how far do you go as far as 'complete' goes? Are you okay with just box + manual, or do you try and make sure it has all the extra maps, dust covers, tray inserts, plastic baggies, etc?

I'm just curious about peoples' collecting habits :)

Complete for me means box, and game. I like manuals and will try to get the game with one but it's not a requirement. I try to make sure the box and cart are as nice as possible though.

Check out the other stuff he is selling for a good laugh.

As for the question at hand, I try to get CIB stuff in reasonable condition. I will take lower quailty stuff if the price is a steal (like from a garage sale or something).

Its weird that I am OCD for CIB on any disc based game. However on game carts don't really care. Maybe because most used game carts are usually sold without the box and instructions. I think if I did want to keep game carts in the original box, it would have to be solid and space saving, most cart boxes are too bulky.

Look at N64 and Gameboy boxes, a pain to remove the game, no plastic but flimsy cardboard inserts inside. The Genesis carts at least had a nice plastic holder, but still bulky. DVD cases are bulky too but a necessity to protect the disc and hold the manual. A shame the BlueRay case wasn't the standard in the DVD era. But then the instruction books would have been smaller.

I'm the same way, however, I think the reason why I prefer my disc based games to be CIB is they look better that way. Carts look cool as either cart only or CIB. Lastly, disc based games seem like they would be easily damaged if they weren't kept in a case.

As long as the game has the case and manual I don't care about any of the other extra stuff. Soft Cases don't need to be mint, just no tears or damage that makes the box not close properly.

For cart games I'll note them as complete in my list if I have game/box/instrructions/map and holder as appropriate. I prefer to have the ads and baggies but it isn't worth the extra hassle and cost to track them down that way. I'll accept imperfections depending on the price, though I have upgraded things occasionally if I came across one better where I could sell off the older and make a decent amount of the outlay back.
