I haven't been playing much in the way of console games lately - mostly sticking to some MAME games and stuff on my phone. Jetpack Joyride is a real addictive game that is worthy of high praise, and brought me 4-5 hours of fun for $0.99.

Illusion of Gaia: This game was honestly pretty hit or miss for me. Some of it I loved, some not so much. Early on the dungeons were very maze-like with tons of backtracking and just got all kinds of confusing. The plot/characters were absolutely horrendous, the dialogue and everything was awful. I have heard the game got butchered pretty bad with the localization though. Overall not a bad ride though, and I probably just spoiled myself by playing Terranigma before in the past. But to be honest, it's not a popular opinion it seems... but I even enjoyed Soul Blazer a lot more than Gaia, which I beat a few weeks ago.
Alcahest: A weird arcade/RPG action game in the vein of overhead SNES real time RPG's. The music was insanely good and it was only a few hours long, great fun. I honestly reverted to save states on this one though, lol. Something I rarely do thesedays, but man those bosses were pretty brutal even on Normal. The composer was apparently the Kirby composer (since HAL developed it), wish he did more serious/darker games like this, the soundtrack was just damn amazing.

Phantasy Star was a very, very old school RPG. To even get started I had to spend 2-3 hours grinding on early game enemies so I didn't get slaughtered in only 2 or 3 random encounters. True story - the very first time I ever played this game, I walked out of the town, encountered an enemy, and lost to it. I game overed on the FIRST ENEMY of the game. It wasn't even that I'd taken a wrong turn, it's pretty much the weakest enemy >_<. Strangely enough though, once I'd done that little bit of grinding, the game wasn't that hard, and I didn;t need to grind too much. It was also fairly nice with hints on what to do next, even if it didn't often outright tell you where to go. There were annoyances - you can't choose which enemy to attack, the randomisation on damage is huge (honestly, my guy with an 80 power axe varied between 1 and 50 hit points of damage all the time, with enemies at the endgame having 120+ HP, it was rather a major variation), you can't choose which enemy to target (which means you cant even target one enemy to make up for the unknown damage output) and the order of attacks each round seemed totally random, normally in the enemies favour. The dungeons got a bit redicilous towards the end, but by that point i'd given in mapping them myself and was using pre-drawn ones so whatever. A good game overall, but I don't think I'm in a rush to try the sequels.
Definitely make sure you check out Phantasy Star IV. It has quite a good story and characters and cool attacks too. Up there with some of the best in my opinion.

i really enjoyed thunder force III. light years better than thunder force II and not has hard as lightening force. in fact, it might be a bit too easy on default settings. i also really like the shitty voice that speaks your recent weapon acquisition. it is so bad, but that didn't stop them from using it all the force series.

Just beat Star Fox 2 last night on my iPad 2 with Wii classic controller. The game was a little too easy and short IMO.

Why are some of you guys trying to insinuate used game sales didn't exist before Gamestop? They sure as hell did. You go into any video rental place, Blockbuster included, and you could find tons of used cartridges for sale. Our local used music shop sold used games. And FuncoLand was a HUGE chain that sold used games (and for cheap!), that is until Gamestop bought them out.

Medal of Honor had a few fun missions, but was generally very generic and boring. Give it a pass if you are on the fence, as I feel it was barely worth the $10 I paid.
Dimahoo and Moonwalker were both excellent examples of arcade games that demand your attention and your quarters. Each are excellent in their own right. Moonwalker has some of the best actual songs>chiptunes translations I've heard. It is also legions better than the home ports.

Who said that?
Not picking on you, I just rushed through the last few pages (been out of town for a week...), and I didn't notice anyone insinuate that, but I glossed over a lot.
