That a bunch of BS.
are you actually serious? Computers cost hundreds of dollars. If you're comfortable paying hundreds of dollars for something WITHOUT researching that it's what you want, then... well, then I guess you'll end up in situations like this. It's not hard though. Go to the BB website. Each product page has full specs of each computer. Personally, I don't buy much of anything without researching first that it's what I want to pay for. I guess I'm funny like that.
That's why the salesman is being paid. He doesn't have to be a computer geek, but he does have to be familiar with the models he's selling at least. If he can't be, then he shouldn't be working there.
Actually he's being paid to sell something to consumers. And hey, guess what? You made his job a lot easier for him.

this, OP you seem like a moron when it comes to computers, no offense lol.
I'm sorry, I didn't know I had to be a computer geek to buy a computer. When I ask a guy "Is this upgradeable?" and he tells me "Yeah, no problem." Why should I expect any different. I'm the moron when he was the one that was wrong?

Guess I should expect no less from PC guys that already act high and mighty above all the console gamers.

All this thread was about was the fact that I was lied to by a Best Buy employee. Instead it has turned into a thread about how I'm not computer geek enough to buy a computer.

Fuck the guy that sold me the computer, and fuck all of you one your high and mighty PC horses.

but I don't think he did lie. Is the PC upgradeable? Yes. All PC's are.

Did you ask him "is this PC upgradeable to ______ video card that I own and ______ RAM that I own?"

Sorry but I have to side with the OP, there are a lot of instances where people purchase things they don't really understand and expect the salesman to adequately address their problems. If you buy an insurance policy and you have a question about coverage do you sift through the hundreds of pages in the policy or do you ask your agent?

I get that. And that's fine. It's just not how I personally shop. And because of that, I'm less duped into shit I don't want than the OP is.

You do realize that the majority of people here aren't PC gamers and I doubt any one of us here is trying to act high and mighty. Jeez, don't get your panties in a bunch.

Also he did not lie to you, you didn't do the research you needed to do. Unless you bought a slimPC I bet my money there is a PCI-e slot in that computer and you can upgrade the ram. How about taking a picture of the inside or giving us a link to the product page, so we can actually help you.

The fact of the matter is, yes, you do have to do your own research. Salespeople are not there to help you, they are there to extract money from you in any way possible. Consider this a life lesson.

This doesn't just apply to computers. You don't have to be a mechanic to own a car. But you should know how often to change your blinker fluid and have your muffler bearings greased. If you don't look out for yourself, you're an easy mark.

If you're not reading your insurance policies yourself, don't be surprised when your coveraged is denied because "flood coverage" doesn't cover damage done by hurricanes, or equally tricky phrases. That's the whole game of insurance. They make a profit by selling people coverage, and then not following up on it.

Never, ever, ever make any decisions whatsoever based solely on the input of a salesperson. If a salesperson tells you the sky is blue, you'd better go outside and check.

But he wasn't wrong. The RAM, at the very least, as well as the actual CPU, is definitely upgradable. The video... maybe yes, maybe no. Were you specific when you asked if a video card could be added?
All this thread was about was the fact that I was lied to by a Best Buy employee.
But, according to your story... you weren't lied to at all.
Fuck the guy that sold me the computer, and fuck all of you one your high and mighty PC horses.
 What did you expect? You said that the employee lied to you, but, from what you said of the story, he did not lie. Are you surprised you were called on it?

Yes.. the best buy employee might have been an idiot and may have been "lying" to you, but if you were buying a computer already planning to upgrade it, you should at least knew the basic specs so you could upgrade it.

How did you know what type of ram to get?
How did you know what type of pci slot gpu card to get?
Did the employee help you pick out the card and memory?

My motherboard has integrated graphics, but when you upgrade to a better GPU you can disable it or it will automatically be disabled by PnP.

You can take out your old ram modules and just stick in the larger ones presuming everything matches.
You should also be able just to stick in a new video card no problem if it's compatible even with integrated graphics.

If you are unsure how to do any of these things you should have had the employee explain it to you. You can't be mad at them if you don't even know what you are doing. That's like buying a kit for your car and not knowing how to install it because you're not a "car person". Then going and blaming the fact that you don't have the knowledge because the person you bought it from didn't explain it to you.

**edit** i hope i didn't come off as a jerk. If you post pics and specs maybe we can help you fix your situation and get your computer upgraded!

going to have to side with noise again, i research everything i buy, i spent 2 weeks researching the best LCD for my money.

also i avoid salesmen at all costs, even when i ask them something i still go research it, getting a job at a retail store is super easy, you dont need to know jack.
