Not even bottle rockets? Sounds like California, except that with NC's climate, there's no good reason for it that I can think of.

CA isn't that bad. SoCal we could get fireworks around 4th o'July but not otherwise usually. Fortunately Mexico is close enough to get a Tijuana toilet cracker.
