It's sort of like a really long, TV-friendly Quentin Tarantino movie, in space.

I don't know if I'd say it's necessarily Tarantino in space, but eh.

Watch it anyway.

It's not the best comparison. It's not directed in Tarantino's style at all, it just features a similar range of subject material: guns, flashy fist fights, quirky characters, shady situations, and ample humor despite a gritty setting. The actual style of presentation is less harsh, more natural, more friendly, and more accessible.

Well give it a shot someday, maybe it'll surprise you. Heh.

It's not a popular opinion, but I was always kind of a bigger Trigun/Gungrave fan myself.
I liked Trigun, as well as Outlaw Star, but I'd rate Bebop over both of them personally. Both of those series have their weak points, but Bebop was just solid from episode to episode and the movie was great too. Bebop just has a great standard of quality and I like that it never gets too silly. It has comedy, but in moderation. That show just hit the perfect balance of everything, humor, action, drama, etc. It's one of the few anime series I've seen where it never really had a weak moment or episode. I love the influences in the show too. Jazz music, a little Bruce Lee in Spike's philosophy and fighting style, some John Woo style action, some obvious anime influences and episode titles referencing classic songs. It's just full of cool, classy references and influences that you actually appreciate more as you get older making it a pretty timeless show. Also, there are moments of genuine emotion in the story that feel real and not sappy, forced or melodramatic(like 90 % of the Japanese anime out there)

And yeah, it's nothing like Tarantino. I'm a fan of Tarantino's work, but I'd say I've gotten more enjoyment out of Cowboy Bebop. Quentin's work comes off as too gimmicky and shock worthy sometimes. He winks at his audience a bit too much and tries a bit too hard to make his work cool and hip sometimes. I love how Bebop always manages to have this cool vibe without it ever feeling forced, but natural. That said, I did enjoy Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill and Inglorious Bastards

@Gamerforlife: I totally agree Cowboy Bebop is amazing!! 8)

I recently watched High School of the Dead, Sacred Blacksmith, and Kaze no Stigma on Netflix. They are all pretty funny to watch with a lot of cheesy humor but enjoyable to watch.

I think Cowboy Bebop is by far one of the best out there, but I always felt that the episodic nature of the series held it back from being perfection.
