why buy a pre-made computer if the first thing you did when you got it home was open it up and try to upgrade the video card and ram?

Are there expansion slots for add in cards?

Just because there are no extra ram slots doesn't mean it can't be upgraded. Maybe you've got 2 slots and 2 2gb sticks for a total of 4gb and you could upgrade to 2 4gb sticks?

Best Buy is one of those companies that grants interviews (and therefore hires) based on your ability to answer an online personality quiz how they want. Essentially, they don't even trust their managers to know how to do their job.
The employees actually knowing anything about the products on their shelves tends to be a happy coincidence (I have had some reasonably knowledgeable and friendly employees approach me there though).

I had thought though that not having an upgrade slot for video due to integrated died out with AGP (was fairly common then). It's a poor idea to buy a prebuilt machine anyway, since the PSUs tend to be crap, cases may be cramped, etc, even if the slot is present.

Indeed. You made 2 mistakes. First, buying a prebuilt computer. Second, buying it at Best Buy. Lesson learned and no harm done. Take it all back and go to NewEgg.

Wal Mart has a program in which you pay them 99 dollars to hook up your DVD player and plug your TV in.

Meh, its the same as paying someone else to change your oil if you don't understand cars.

That a bunch of BS. That's why the salesman is being paid. He doesn't have to be a computer geek, but he does have to be familiar with the models he's selling at least. If he can't be, then he shouldn't be working there.
