They've happened before and will likely continue to do so, but the latest game to pop up early is Gears of War 3.
Apparently some fellow on craigslist is willing to let it go for $150.

Don't underestimate how much some people want to waggle their e-penis around. For some, it's all they really seem to care about. You know, the type that spends all day on /b/, trying to start the next meme.Hobie-wan wrote:Paying tons extra to play console games a few days early is dumb. I seem to recall in the past that you couldn't get online early with the game so you won't earn any trophies and obviously you won't be able to play with anyone else. Unless you want to make some single player videos and waggle your e-penis around on youtube I don't see the point.

Did the same job at a local video store (no corporate BS). I really miss those perks.bryan_65 wrote:This reminds me, when I was a kid my mom used to work at a video store and she would always get to bring home the new release movies and games usually the weekend before they would hit the shelves. Oh such great times ,anything I wanted free to play and watch.
That will never happen in the current market. The rules and fines are STRICT. I can tell you that everything Best Buy sells is tracked through the POS registers. Once the barcode is scanned, the companies get notified, and WB LOVES to jump on those fines!D.D.D. wrote:Did the same job at a local video store (no corporate BS). Yea it was a decade or more ago, and it was a one off store. Yeah for no corporate BS.Bradtemple87 wrote:That will never happen in the current market. The rules and fines are STRICT. Sounds about when I was working too. It was about 16 years ago actually. VHS was still king and DVDs were like mini-laserdiscs.bryan_65 wrote:Yea it was a decade or more ago, and it was a one off store. Yeah for no corporate BS.
My mom would still be working there if they didn't go out of business but it was back when the new releases would cost $100 to get and they would not get released to retail stores for a few months.
