Best Buy Sucks

Post by BurningDoom »

My computer broke and it was old enough that it would be a waste of money to get it repaired. So we went to buy another one. I ask the guy "Is this upgradable? Can I buy a new video card and RAM and put it in this if I want?" He says "Yeah, no problem." I get home and open it up to put said video card and RAM in it, and there is no extra RAM slots, and the video card is integrated into the motherboard so I can't put anything new there. Nice, huh?

I'm taking it back. But as annoyed as I am at the guy, I'm afraid to mention the situation because of fear of not honoring the return-policy because they know I opened the computer. Does this apply to computers like it does consoles?

You don't need extra RAM slots to upgrade and you can still put a video card in a computer that has integrated graphics. He wasnt wrong. That said, I prefer to do my computer shopping at MicroCenter or on Craigslist.

Did pick up a great quad core laptop with dual graphics at Best Buy recently though. The price was too good to pass up.

Well, maybe there's a PCI-E x16 slot for a video card and maybe there isn't. The paperwork for the PC should say exactly what slots are in it so you can probably point out in the paperwork if it isn't really possible.

My one negative experience at Best Buy goes as follows:

When I was younger I had a Best Buy gift card. When I went to use the gift card the cashier accidentally removed all the funds from the card when he swiped it. He then was confused and swiped the card again, claimed it had a 0.00 since it had been used previously that same day. (Yeah, seconds previously.) My father was with me at the time and the cashier claimed we were attempting to steal, threatened to call the police on my father and I and told us we were never allowed in Best Buy again. Note that he was extremely derogatory during this talk. We left and contacted Best Buy Corporate and explained the situation. They looked it up and saw that the transaction where the card was voided (conveniently to exactly $0.00) happened just a minute before the next attempt. Best Buy offered me a new Best Buy gift card and apologized profusely for the employees behavior.

If there's not slot to put a video card or RAM into, what am I supposed to do?

Well, there will be ram slots, they may just all be filled. I can't imagine there are no expansion slots, just maybe not the kind you need for a video card. What's the PC, or a link to it on the BB site?

not to be a dick, but it's always a good idea to do the research yourself instead of asking the salesman. Just saying.
