SNK Classics Collection V1 on PS2 - $14.99
SNK Classics Collection V1 on PS2 - $14.99
If you are looking for a cheap and legal way to play some Neo-Geo classics and you have a PS2, you might want to look at the brand new SNK Classics Collection. It just came out and Amazon has it for under $15:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... amingwi-20
Here are the games that are included:
Art Of Fighting
Baseball Stars 2
Burning Fight
Fatal Fury
King Of Fighters ’94
King Of The Monsters
Last Resort
Magician Lord
Metal Slug
Neo Turf Master
Samurai Shodown (the next game for Together Retro)
Sengoku
Shock Troopers
Super Sidekicks 3
Top Hunter
World Heroes
With 16 games, that's less that $1 per game!
Now, the production values and emulation might not be 100%, but probably on par with most of the other SNK releases on the PS2. The best review I've found so far is on IGN:
http://feeds.ign.com/~r/ignfeeds/ps2/~3 ... 098p1.html
They seem a little critical of the game selection, but I think it's pretty good.
There is also a PSP version, but it costs $30 (twice as much?@!)
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... amingwi-20
Anyway, this might be worth picking up as many of these might find their way to the Together Retro club.

Good selection of games. However, the review from IGN makes it sound disappointing. I am hoping that someone on these forums will buy it and give it a review. My main concern is the slowdown and load times. If the Dreamcast can do near flawless emulation for the Neo Geo CD. It amazes me that hombrew is better then commercial with paid developer's. Please someone tell em that the emulation for this is near perfect.

I'm really interested in this, so somebody give some impressions! The game selection could be better, but I get the feeling they were going for the first games in their big series. First ones weren't always the best. Some of the second and thirds were good though, so I bet Vol. 2 will be quite good - SamSho 2, FF Special, KOF 96 or 98...

Well it's "just" the PS2 and it's basically a Neo-Geo emulator.

Will playing it off an HDD solve the problem with slowdown since everything is being load faster??? Or is it a software issue???Flak Beard wrote:It's a real shame about the slowdown, almost inexcusable these days. I'm hesitant to pick it up now, but it is cheap and I do love me some Neo Turf Masters. "On the gweeeen!" lol.
