Square-Enix announces Final Fantasy X remake for Vita & PS 3

I dunno, where it may lack story-wise (though not really better/worse than VII/VIII IMO), the combat mechanics/etc of X were pretty solid, and fun.

If SE is doing the PS2 remastering thing though, maybe we'll see FFXII Internation Zodiac Job System version released in the US in the same fashion >_>

definitely pointless to me. You can still buy brand new PS2's. You can still buy FFX brand new for PS2. I don't know. I mean it'll sell because it says FINAL FANTASY on it but whatever. FFVII is of course going to take much longer to create. But I think Square should port Crisis Core to PS3. That makes a lot more sense to me.

I think that's a horrible idea personally. Crisis Core was really good as a portable title, but it's definitely not good enough as a PS 3 retail title. If they did this, they'd have to sell it at a budget price as it really doesn't offer enough content and variety to be a main console title

Right, it's an enhanced port to the newer platforms - same as the God of War, Sly Cooper, Team Ico, Prince of Persia, Tomb Raider, MGS, and whatever other retooled-for-HD releases from the PS2.

It makes some sense, considering that it's relatively cheap to do. Main thing that stands out to me is that the precedent for these sorts of releases is as collections. Even SE's PS1 releases were like that. I'd have expected more like, Kingdom Hearts HD collection, FF X, X-2, XII HD collection, and so on.

I think FF X is more highly regarded in general than other FF games that followed it. So they're not even bothering with the others

Or they just want to make more money by releasing them all individually.

As I said on another forum, again someone asking why X before VII. X is just upping the Res, adding some AA and maybe tweaking some textures, redoing FFVII is much more work than that.

Yeah, that's true. It's a much cheaper option than remaking FF 7. They would make so much money on a FF 7 remake though. It's just weird that they aren't taken advantage of that

Then again, FF 7 is classic. Maybe it's best left alone rather than have Square-Enix potentially mess it up with a total remake from the ground up. It would have to be at least as good as the Resident Evil remake to make everyone happy

I don't think the risk would be too high. I mean, look how well Ocarina of Time 3D was received.

Then again, FF fans are extra whiney. They'd probably hate even improvements, if it changed anything.

I remember reading somewhere that if they made a remake they'd be removing that sequence among others.

Because obviously that's what people want with a remake... less stuff.
