Finished farming on Everquest II. When I get back on after doing my homework concerning Business Ethics, I'll be getting back to leveling up my skills.
Re: What RPG are you playing right now?
Thanks for the tips. I was wondering if I could hit up Lufia 2 first, sounds like I can (it honestly looks a lot more appealing to me, skimming over videos on youtube between the two. I can definitely see what you mean about Lufia 1, looks and sounds pretty dated). And yeah I figured for BoF I'd start with the first game. Funny I keep forgetting those first two exist, so I should play them soon lol. Pretty awkward Square Soft apparently localized the first game, never knew that.MrPopo wrote:Breath of Fire is fun. The translation is somewhat bare-bones but it's a solid game. Breath of Fire 2 has a very spotty translation; if you're playing on ZSNES look for the retranslation patch to get the story cleaned up. Lufia feels like an NES game that was given 16-bit graphics (barely). The biggest issue is that it doesn't retarget when a monster dies so you do nothing. There's also a boss battle early on that's a duel and is a massive pain in the ass. That said, it's a fun game. However, I'd recommend Lufia 2 first. Lufia 2 is a prequel (and the events of the end are played through in Lufia) and it has a lot of much needed refinements. Plus, it adds a lot of Zelda-esque puzzle solving to the dungeons, making them more engaging.Xeogred wrote:What do you guys think of ...

Breath of Fire 2

Lufia 2
Learning towards one of these for my next game I think. Honesty I will probably go with the first game of either series since it probably just makes more sense that way. But yeah just curious to hear some opinions on these.
Or maybe I'll hit up Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, lol...
So of the four, I'd say either Lufia 2 or BoF1. BoF2 has enough story hooks to the original that you should play the original first.
I guess I kind of played Lunar out of order myself. Played 2, but still haven't played the first one. Someday...

Xeogred, start with Lufia 2 and finish it. The game's ending is the beginning of Lufia, and frankly it ruins the impact if you know what happens. I first played the two out of order (I've beaten Lufia 2 but not Lufia), and oh man that ending caught me by surprise.
It also helps that Lufia 2 is an incredibly solid game. There are some translation bugs, but it's a solid system, and it's a lot of fun. Plus the music stands out in my mind, something hard to do in a genre on a console known for its great music.

Persona 4 - It's been a couple of years since I played 3, but the ability to give commands to all your characters makes this one way better. The battle music gets pretty old, quickly though.
The formula for 3 and 4 seems like is would be so dull, but the games are insanely fun to play - go figure

Nice, yeah I've been watching some short LP videos of the first bits of the game and it looks really awesome. Great battle system, great music and graphics, cool Zelda-esque dungeons, you catch monsters??, etc. Looks pretty awesome.Ack wrote:Xeogred, start with Lufia 2 and finish it. Finished the main story in Disgaea: Hour of Darkness and now grinding the Cave of Ordeals for bigger levels to tackle the side quests.
This game has been immensely fun so far and I would recommend to anyone that enjoys RPG's (not just tactical)

You don't catch monsters in the DQV sense. There are a few monsters who will join your party as a 5th uncontrollable member, but they are located at fixed places and you just need to find them to get them.Xeogred wrote:Nice, yeah I've been watching some short LP videos of the first bits of the game and it looks really awesome. Yeah, I saw videos on how it worked and it looked cool enough. They didn't look amazingly powerful or super useful, but for a 5th party member it didn't look like they could hurt at all, I noticed the enemies would sometimes attack them (and heard in the videos they completely heal after battle), so it sounds like they could be good to have to simply just distract enemies a bit so your main party doesn't take damage sometimes. Just seemed like another cool element in the game, seems great. Think I'll start it up today.
