From Dust came out (finally) on PSN. I downloaded and played the demo and I'm impressed.

The game is... well I'll just quote wikipedia:
Ubisoft described it as a 'spiritual heir' to Populous
And after playing it, it really has that Populous vibe.

This is Eric Chahi's first game in a while and, admittedly, is the only reason why I was interested because I'm such a huge fan of Another World/OotW.

In the game you are a god. You are able to alter the landscape and help the people progress across the land and build villages. The last stage of the demo has you trying to protect the people from an impending tsunami.

The water effects are probably the best I've ever seen in a game. Water flow actually erodes the soil and builds new rivers, ponds, estuaries, et cetera.

sooo... yeah. Anyone else going to get this game? I'll probably end up buying the full version for PS3 after reading some pretty terrible things about the PC version.

The only thing really terrible about the PC version (Which I have) is the controls, the issue for me is the game is boring as hell. Its pretty much a dump truck simulator, pick up this pit of dirt, move it here, rinse repeat.

I am sure some people might like it, but its not really my thing.

lol. Dump truck simulator. :)

I've always liked to mess around and alter the landscape in games. I especially love it when games (like Morrowind for example) come with a world editor.

That's what this game is. A real-time world editor.

I finally picked this game up (er... downloaded... whatever) and have enjoyed it so far.

Has anyone else checked this game out?

From what you've said about it, I'll try out the demo. If I like what I see, I'll buy it along with Sonic CD using one card. The god aspect does intrigue me, but I really want something that'll last me.

You should definitely try out the demo as this game isn't for everyone.

The main game only lasts about 2 1/2 to 3 hours, so unless you really, really enjoy the demo... you should probably wait for a price drop. However, there are challenge stages that you unlock that add to the playtime so there's a little more content to keep you playing.

Oh and just FYI, the demo download is pretty hefty. I think it's a little over 900 MB. You're actually downloading the entire game and if you purchase it you download an unlock key for the full version. --Just a little warning if you're like me and have slow internet. You'll spend a while downloading this game. :|
