I'm no market analyst or anything, but I could see a potential future where blu ray (or some other physical medium) continues to exist when streaming takes over and becomes more of a niche format for collectors and people who like physical products. I'd be fine with that.
I hope you are right. I wonder how much of the permanent medium will be lost due to streaming because of convenience and cost savings to the owners. Just as some movies not making it to BlueRay, how many movies will never be pressed to a disc in the future?

On the other hand, independents have gotten into the market via youtube. Trash TV reborn thru online I guess. :lol:

YES on LCDs, LEDs and Plasmas. Its the same problem of trying to upscale a 480i image, VHS is the worse source compared to any other home video format. HD CRTs are more forgiving since they maintain each format's native resolution.

plus bluray player price will continue to go down, and they play dvd too.so y no upgrade?

but i dont think ppl will abandon bluray for download simply because ppl want something tangible, same reason why people here wont buy digital games.
The two will coexist, but its hard to see bluray rental shops in the future because download is the wat to go. they will die just like internet cafes died

@crtgamer
which consoles r upgradable to component ad my tv has no svideo or vga,dvi, or hdmi.
its old crt but got component. i sure wish n64 could look better
i can avtually see it bleeding and bluring.

btw, isnt RF same as the cable u connevt to ur current tv recievers?
You are killing me with your broken misspelled sentences and cell phone short hand. Maybe hit the preview button before submitting? Go easy on that Return key, each sentence does not need its own paragraph.

But read thru my CRT vs LCD signature link, I covered various video connection issues there.

Well that sucks. Guess I'm gonna have to keep my old box TV around. I have a whole lot of old games and a whole lot of VHS around my place.

@CRTGAMER

Oh, am sorry about the language. its not my first language, so it doesn't matter how it looks to me, when I saw other English speakers are easy going on the spelling and capitals I guess I joined the club. I didn't know it was that annoying. Plus it doesn't help when you are writing using an iPad.

The HD thing sucks. Now we have to collect CRTs to play older consoles and VHS, right?
I really feel sorry for VHS, I don't want to let go...

Older consoles and vhs are playable on HDTVs, but whether it looks any good depends on the TV's scaler and it's a bit more important to get the highest quality signal possible (using s-video and component cables for example). There's also high quality scalers you can buy, but they're kinda expensive. Besides it's not like CRT's are particularly hard to find, in fact, thanks to HD, they're cheaper than ever now.

If it's anything worth noting, I watch DVDs via my Blu Ray player on my TV all the time. Upscaled, they look fine, if a bit blurry/fuzzy all around compared to actual HD for obvious reasons.

I for one love my HD formats.

I see no reason to feel 'sorry' for VHS. Do you feel sorry for all the other obsolete video formats like Laserdisc and CED too? It was supplemented by a better format, that's all there is to it.

Sorry I can't join your party... Aside from the 6~8 hour recording capability, I don't see anything good about VHS. I'm glad to see it disappear.

No worries, the sentence layout was just confusing. If you are at your home, a bluetooth keyboard can easily be attached for long entries.

Agree, HD LCDs really hurt the image on most video unless the source is HD. A transition since there is a lot of video still in 480i including what is broadcast. Retro gaming and all the video in 480i is the reason why I stick with a HD CRT. My VHS collects dust but a good standby for the hospital situation mentioned in my earlier reply.

@AppleQueso

I guess VHS is like your ugly child, you still love him :lol:
just so much memories, I particularly used to love browsing through the video tape to see what hidden footage have been recorded over, sometimes you find gems in the middle or at the end of the tape :lol:

I didn't realize how much retarded VHS was until i popped one long time after forgetting about it, and i was trying to click the subtitles button..hahaha...no subtitles, no chapter selection, no double fast rewind or forwarding, other than recording, VHS has no advantage over DVD at ALL.

as for laser disc and CED. I am making a huge guess and say CED didn't even make it to my country. maybe the whole region, never saw it anywhere or heard of it until I saw it on Wikipedia.

and as for LaserDisc. First time I saw it was like '96, and last time I saw it was like '98. Didn't live that long, and I remember it was too expensive to enjoy. So no memories of it what so ever.
How much was a LaserDisc movie int he US? and How much was the player?

I still say VHS picture wasn't that bad

CED wasn't a very popular format. I know about them, but I've never actually seen a CED or a CED player anywhere before.

In the U.S., Tower Records used to carry a ton of Laser Disc movies. The prices were between $25.00 to $40.00. Criterion Discs tended to be the priciest, the big box sets ran up to $100.00.

I have both Laser and CED. The video quality of both are a great improvement over tape, but not as good as DVD. I have a CED RCA Selectivision model, changed the stylus "needle" years ago when they could still be found. Still works great, but some of my CED movies would tend to skip or freeze. A crap design, the discs would scratch up over time. The discs have a protective sleeve similar to PSP UMD discs. The sleeve is inserted in the player, then removed leaving the disc behind. The sleeve is reinserted to remove the disc and change sides. First time my wife saw me insert a movie, all she could say was "Thats Ridiculous." :lol:
