help upgrading a softmodded xbox's hard drive

can't clear error 21, my idea of loading up my softmodded C&E drives didn't work either, and i can't get hexen to load via hot swap. any ideas??

Did you mess with the jumpers?

i was reading somewhere that the jumper hasto be set to master instead of cable select

are their jumpers on the sata to ide converter

This error says that the machine was booted to display a error, basically someone told the machine to reboot (or launch a xbe) with this flag, and the error code just means its been rebooted by the flag

This occurs frequently when the xbox is unable to boot due to dashboard changes being made (ie Gcue true blue hasnt been resigned, parts of the stock dash are missing - incomplete FTP backups copied to a new HDD for example).

there are no jumpers on the converter. I may try to copy over a clean set of dash files from slayers/AID and tranfer to my USB and build my new drive from scratch, but then again, that is what i did when i just copied over my backed up C&E drives right off of my softmodded drive. Dunno, i know i'm close to making this work, but am out of ideas right now...

minor update for those following the thread

will try chimp2618 method of hotswapping to try to finish this out so i can move on with my life

but if anyone has successfully overcame the error 21 after a softmod, please share.

ok, back to hexen. i managed to get hexen to load from a cold boot, which then loads unleashx, but cant' access the files on the burned DVD that needs to load. the dash switches to file explorer which then looks at the D Drive for the hexen files, but just shows as 0mb of data on the disk. I'm going to try a slower burn via DVD decrypter and see if that makes a difference. My other option is to install hexen as an app on my E drive and load it that way, but will have to edit the config file to look at the E drive instead of D. I guess this is turning into more of a journal to follow my experiment...

Which version XBOX do you have?
If you could take a picture of the MoBo, I could tell you if you are able to flash the TSOP.

jinn, i was able to get hexen to load. i just did a slower burn and oila! it booted up first time. i'ts already formatted my C and E drive and now formatting X for the past few hours now. I expected that since it is a 2TB it's formatting. i'll leave it on overnight and check back in in the AM.

formatting should take about 1-2 minutes when using XBpartitioner.

hmm, maybe that explains why i got error 7, then 9, then 13, and now back to 21. dunno, i'll try it again this evening when i get in from work. could it be that i have to load it up again, swapping IDE cables, and once back in hexen, lock the drive? I know that's the last step, but expected to be able to select EvoX to lock the drive per heimdall's instructions. Not sure what i'm doing wrong here...

Please take a picture of the motherboard, if it's TSOP flash-able, I can tell you how to flash it with out the need to use solder to connect the write enable points.
