Help me identify an arcade game from my childhood.

Post by ZeroAX »

Ok, this is going to be kind of hard, cause I don't remember a lot about it. Anyway, hopefully you guys can help :D.

When I was a kid, we played this amazing arcade racing game. It was a top down view, and all I can remember was that your chose a character from a roster of racers from different countries (and if I remember correctly they were kind of caricatures of the national stereotypes), and you traveled around the world, racing against each and every one of them. You even raced against yourself in a pallet swap. One character was driving a Ferrari (can't remember if it was officially licensed), and I think he was an old man.

Also I think it came out in the 90s, since the graphics were at least what you'd call 16-bit good (of course this being an arcade game, it could have came out towards the end of the 80s....no idea)

.....ring any bells?

I don't think I have played this game but could you try describing the look of the cabinet and the controls used? Also, how many players did it support?

It was a standard cabinet with arcade stick controls. It supported 2 players from what I remember.

Anyone know a good retro arcade review site, so I can check their racing games?

Sounds like it might have been SNK's OverTop, or maybe one of the Drift Out versions?

Here's a Drift Out:

includes video

here's overtop
