Fair enough, now I know ressurecting old topics is expected here I'll keep it in mind. Still explaining that rather than posting ONLY the link would have made his rude respose entirely reasonable because it wouldn't come across as condescending. You say he's not trolling, I say he is. He's showing he's more familar with the forum and rubbing it in the face of the newer members. It's neither helpful or welcoming, it's just elitism. Secondly, the thread he posted was about your FIRST console, not a console history, so not only is it rude and unwelcoming, it's also wrong as this isn't the same discussion. Lastly, I don't see the word moderator under his name, if the moderators care they will merge the topics... it's not hard, that's what moderators are for.

Re: Your Console History
1. Atari 2600: Had this when I was really young, like from 3-7 years old in the mid-80s. It was my older sisters. I'd play it for like 10-15 minutes, then get bored. Atari 2600 never held my interested long because A. I sucked at it, and B. It looked and sounded terrible. I remember we had Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, BurgerTime, and either Space Invaders or Galaxian (it was so long ago that my memory is fuzzy, but I remember an early space-ship shooter). We also had this game that I can't find or remember what it was for the life of me. I remember it was somewhat open-world (for an Atari game). You could move screens in any direction. But it was a 2D platformer, so you could only go up if there was a ladder or down if there was a ladder or hole. And I remember HUGE trees as the background. Lot's of people point out Jungle Hunt or Pitfall 1 or 2 to me, but those are not the game because I owned Jungle Hunt and Pitfall 1 & 2 until about a month ago. That was the only game I played a whole lot.
2. Nintendo NES: I got this for either Christmas or my Birthday, can't quite remember which it was. But it was freaking amazing. My mom and grandpa went in on it together, can't thank them enough because NES is what made me a gamer. And it was brand-new in box. I was 6 or 7 years old and it was the late 80s. The Atari 2600 didn't hold my attention long, but man, the NES was like digital crack to me. I couldn't get enough. The games I received with it were Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt combo-cartridge (the pack-in game), The Legend of Zelda, Star Soldier, Pin-Bot, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
3. Super Nintendo: I traded in a good chunk of my NES collection to get this bad-boy, used, in like 1993 or 1994. So I was late getting this. But that's okay, my NES still keeps me entertained to this day and did before I got the SNES. I never had a huge SNES collection back then because they were pricey. But I had some of the best ones: Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past, Street Fighter II, Maximum Carnage, Separation Anxiety, X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse.
4. Sega Genesis: I rented a lot of games on my SNES through our local video store. So by 1995, maybe 1996 stretching it, I traded in my SNES collection at FuncoLand for a Sega Genesis collection to see what I had been missing. Looking back, it probably wasn't the best decision since I like SNES better, but at least I got to experience the best of both this way. I did play some great games on it: Sonic the Hedgehog 1-3 + Knuckles, Sonic 3D Blast, Vectorman 1 & 2, Mortal Kombat games, X-Men 2, Comix Zone, Cool Spot, and others.
5. Playstation - It was 1998. My mom had just got a new job, and we were a 1-income family through my stepdad before that. So she bought me and my brother, as a shared B-Day present, the Playstation brand-new in box, first brand-new system since the NES. When I got it, it freaking blew me away. I was completely used to 2D graphics being the norm because of my previous system. The 3D graphics were amazing. And at first, it was quite clumsy trying to navigate 3D worlds when I was used to a 2D one. But I got used to and PS1 is now one of my all-time favorite systems. The games I got with it were: Ridge Racer, Gex, Crash Bandicoot, Tomb Raider, and Resident Evil 2, as well as a pack-in demo disc with like 20 playable demos on it.
6. Sega Dreamcast - I got this baby shortly after launch in 1999. I working a part-time job somewhere by then and was in my sophmore (maybe junior) year in high school. So I paid for it in full by my lonesome. The graphics at the time were jaw-dropping. PS1 & N64 couldn't come close to some of the stuff we saw from this thing. Our games of choice were: Marvel vs. Capcom, Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Quake III: Arena, Unreal Tournament, and Spider-Man.
7. XBox (original) - This was my first-console of choice last-generation after Dreamcast was dead. What drew me to it mostly was Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. That game was so amazing when it came out. Nothing else like it up to that point. The game was soooo open-world and open-ended and just plain immersive. I had to have it. Then I played Halo: Combat Evolved and that cemented it for me. The hard-drive was also appealing to me. I loaded my hard-drive up with my metal CD collection. And some games even let you use your music in their game which was cool, IIRC Tony Hawk's Underground had that option. Some of my top games from it: Crimson Skies, ES III: Morrowind, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 1 & 2, Jade Empire, Halo 1 & 2, X-Men Legends, Star Wars Battlefront, Spider-Man 1 & 2.
After XBox I became more of a game collector. That's when I started buying a bunch of used consoles and games and still do. If I continued talking about the consoles after this it would just be a history of a collector's shopping list, no fun.

Re: Your Console History
See it's stories like these that made me wish I new anything worthwhile about electronics, I'd give me Xbox 360's a going over, I still have both of them and neither of them work... it's so irritating. Why someone would punch the disc drive of a console is beyond me though, that seems really stupid even for the average Madden/Call Of Duty playing jock-come-gamer.weaponepsilon wrote:I have had to do my own repairs, not a huge problem actually. Almost all are in fine condition. Because of my experience in repair work, I have bought many consoles "broken" legit or otherwise and fixed them up. I bought my ps3 broken because the guy jacked up the drive and I called Sony who offered me $150 to fix it. Two minutes later, I had the system apart. Turned out the guy who owned it tried to punch the disc into the drive or something because the feed dogs and gears were blown out. It was simply a matter of putting them back into place. I saved about $250 on that investment alone plus not having to pay Sony and now I have a discontinued fully backwards compatible unit. Same for my NGCD, my PSP, and Nomad.TornadoCreator wrote:
Do you still have all those consoles, in working order? I find it incredible how many people keep so many consoles working. I managed to break my Sega Multi-Mega, Dreamcast and 3DO just through overuse basically and I've gone though two Xbox 360s but I still claim at least one of those is not my fault.
I wonder, my 3DO doesn't read discs anymore, any ideas if there could be a simple fix I could try or is this one of those "take it to a guy who knows" jobs, after all, I doubt Panasonic is likely to fix it for me. It'd be nice to be able to play Crash 'n Burn again.

Re: Your Console History
I'm just going to do the simple list. Not the one that lists when I randomly sold shit off and bought it back again.
~1996 PlayStation
~1997 Genesis
~1999 Saturn
~2001 PlayStation 2 (Launched on my b-day
)
~2003 Xbox
~2005 Xbox 360
~2005 GameCube
~2007 PlayStation 3
~2008 Dreamcast
~2008 Wii
In between 2007-2009 (can't remember exactly when)...
3DO
N64
Sega CD
Sega 32X
SNES
NES
Most of these are gone though, in fact, the only console I still have that's the original one I bought is my Sega Genesis. Well, I got it from a cousin, it's been in the family since 1989. It's the one console I've never sold.

Was his post blunt and rude? Maybe. I seriously doubt, however, that switftzx posted that with the intention of rubbing his all encompassing superiority in your face. You're reading way too into his post if you're actually drawing that sort of conclusion from it. Like I said, nobody's out to get you, seriously. I don't know what kind of forums you've been on before this one, but people AREN'T trying to go out of their way to be assholes or anything to you, I promise. You don't have to be so defensive.TornadoCreator wrote:@YoshiEgg25 and @AppleQueso

Anyhow, I'll try and avoid derailing the topic much further...
It's really not hard to learn that stuff, and it's definitely a useful skill to have. I don't really know a TON myself, but I've done my share of repairs, you'd be surprised at how easy it often is.TornadoCreator wrote: See it's stories like these that made me wish I new anything worthwhile about electronics, I'd give me Xbox 360's a going over, I still have both of them and neither of them work... it's so irritating.
Re: Your Console History
I wish I knew specific dates, but I can give an estimate.
Born in 1987, I grew up with an NES that was originally for my grandpa (long story short my mom and I lived with my grandparents until I was legally adopted when I was 4). So at the age of 2-3 I was already playing games, and the rest is history. I used to think it was funny I'd brag to my friends when I was a kid that I never went to pre-school, instead I'd get up every morning to play Blaster Master, and my grandpa would always rent a game for me like once a week. 90% of the time I'd always grab a Mega Man game. Always played TMNT III with my grandpa as well, good times.
Christmas of 1993 or 1994... probably 1994, I got the SNES along with Donkey Kong Country from my grandparents. At the time all of my friends had the Sega Genesis when I was the Nintendo kid (was the Genesis cheaper or something?). It was always cool spending the night at a friends though who had a Genesis, I fondly remember playing the Sonic games, Shinobi III, and a few others back then.
Somewhere down the road from here, I got an infamous Sega JVC. At the time I had an aunt that was a Blockbuster manager, and she'd sometimes (very rarely) give me games that were "supposedly" broken and non-working. I got most of my Sega games like this (think for a birthday or something though), and even some amazing games like Super Metroid.
The biggest regrettable gaming decision I ever made comes up next. The Nintendo 64 just came out, and I decided I didn't care about the Sega Genesis/CD anymore. I let my mom handle the JVC, 2 controllers, a 6 pad controller, Sonic 2, S&K, Vectorman 1-2, Earthworm Jim, Ristar, Sonic CD, Jurassic Park CD, and Ecco the Dolphin CD... she took all this into a garage sale, and sold it to some kid for $10. This is back in the 90's folks, I can't even imagine how much I would have gotten at a pawn shop or game store. I was devastated and haven't forgotten about this since then... since who knows when the hell I'll ever see a JVC again, lol.
So I got the Nintendo 64 one Christmas yet again from my grandparents. That's my later grade school life for sure with all my friends. Had a blast.
Few years later, I borrowed a Playstation from my friend for what felt like years and remember buying Chrono Cross brand new. This and the PSX Final Fantasy games at the time blew my face off. It was such a crazy difference from the N64, having CD quality music, CGI cutscenes, pre-rendered backgrounds that you didn't see in many N64 titles, etc. I loved it and to this day, I'd say it's become my second favorite console after the SNES. At the time my dad was a religious zealot and very strict, like I couldn't see R rated movies or buy M rated games since I was 13-16 somewhere in there... buuuuut, my mom didn't care. So I bought Metal Gear Solid (played the demo a lot when I was younger with a friend), and then played the living heck out of that game. I'd always get scared if I was playing it with my dad around though, hah.
One of my dad's friends brings over a PS2 when it was brand new and at the time it just left us speechless. Played some Timesplitters, SSX, and some other games.
So I guess here comes the next regrettable thing I did, the PS2 comes out and I decided to trade in about 30 N64 games for Armored Core 2 and maybe a memory card. I think that's all I got out of that, wow. My dad bought a PS2 "for the family", but it inevitably became my system pretty much, haha.
Few years go by and this is when I was getting older and took up chores, mowed some lawns, and racked in some money. I saved up one whole summer one year here and for the first time bought my own system, the original Xbox. I did it for Halo alone since I played that at a friends and it rocked my world. But it was so worth it for all the great LAN parties my friends and I had at the time.
Another Christmas comes around and following tradition, my grandparents got me the Gamecube.
Graduated in 2006 and got an Xbox 360 from my parents.
Got a DS, DS Lite, and PSP when they were both relatively new.
Got in line for the Wii whenever that came out.
Somewhere around here is when I had a lot of money and started building up my game collections. As you can tell from my journey above, I regrettably sold a lot when I was younger, which I don't do at all anymore. So it took awhile to track down a lot of games again, especially SNES/PSX games. The N64 damage has not recovered at all though, but I haven't busted that one out in probably 10 some years anyways. Someday. Along the financial ride here though I finally got my own Genesis again, model 2 (I'd love to get a model 1 someday), and a Dreamcast that has yellowed so bad it's nasty. Also got two modded Sega Saturns from racketboy members! Got my own slim PS2 somewhere around here as well.
Got the PS3 from my grandparents a few years ago.
Got a slim 360 after the normal one died on me twice. Once the warranty covered it, but the second time around I wasn't so lucky. I still have it though, so I plan to try and tinker with it someday.
Now let's do the death toll:
- Both NES's I grew up with died. Had to use cleaning kits for the system and cartridges everytime I played a game.
- My first SNES I traded with my grandparents. My first one is brown now and didn't work very well at all. It's funny, but Super FX, or some kind of specific graphics in games stopped working. Like the maps in Link to the Past, Secret of Mana, etc, they were completely jacked up. The one I have now is in mint condition practically. The controller ports have yellowed a bit though.
- My dad bought another slim PS2 for him and my sister I guess. I think he threw out the fat one, and I wish he didn't. Even if it didn't work very well.
- Lost the Wii to a horrible craigslist story. Not that I miss it much, but I lost $400.
- Slim 360 is my third 360.
Think that sums it up. Who's gonna read this?

Considering that even admins do the exact same thing he did, it's definitely not trolling. It's just how we roll.TornadoCreator wrote:Still explaining that rather than posting ONLY the link would have made his rude respose entirely reasonable because it wouldn't come across as condescending. Re: thread topic:
My first console was an Atari, but as I mentioned before, I don't remember which one it was, except that the joysticks looked like the Darth Vader ones, but the Pole Position I remember looked like the one on the 7800, not the 2600.
The first console that was specifically mine was the Sega Genesis, which my older sister bought for me for my birthday. I had a few crap or decent games like Caesar's Palace, Lion King, Maximum Carnage, and a few more, but mostly I had it for the Sonic games: Sonic 1, 2, 3, Knuckles, and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. Man I played the hell out of those games.
Shortly thereafter, my other sister bought herself an SNES, and I pretty much took it over. I had the best game collection ever (in my opinion), over the years gathering: SMW, DKC, LttP, FFII, SoM, Contra III, Super Metroid, Castlevania IV, and MMX among others. And then of course we'd all play Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter 2 at friends' houses. Come to think about it, that's pretty much all we played together. I can still hear my friend asking me one summer many, many years ago, "You excited about MK3?" Hell yeah I was!
I also got a Game Gear, but I can't remember the exact year. The one and only game I ever had for it was Sonic 2, but I played that game to death, mostly at night since it had a backlight. Around this time I also got my brother's Game Boy in order not to tell on him. If you ever see the scar on m forehead, that was him. But hey, Super Mario Land was fun! I have a brief memory of trading it for a bike, but then both my and my friend's parents getting mad at us for doing that. I also briefly played with my one of my sisters' Virtual Boy, but I have no idea whose it was or what happened to that. It only had Mario Tennis.
Even after I got the N64, I still played my SNES the most (all my Sonic games were stolen a couple years prior
1999 brought me a teal Game Boy Color with two games: Amorines (which I couldn't figure out and gave up on, and soon lost
Finally, in 2001 we got a PS2, and around 2003ish we got an XBOX. We only owned a handful of games for these system, the rest being rented from Blockbuster since I started working there in 2002.
Out of these, only the Game Boy Color, N64, PS1, and XBOX are original. Not sure what happened to the PS2, I think my sister kept it, and the rest I had to reget and a few new ones, like the NES, which I only played but never owned, and the Game Cube, which I both played (at sevin's house) and got for the first time this year.

Re: Your Console History
Except for my first and second consoles ever, I'm only listing stuff I still have today.
Birth through mid 2003: I was a PC-only gamer. Mainly played 16-bit era Adventure games, SimCity 2000, and late 90's FPS's. Only experience with consoles was my neighbor's Genesis. I found it fun, but it never occurred to me to try and buy one for myself. Then, in summer 2003, my cousin came to visit, and convinced me that I would enjoy console gaming, and should buy one. I took his advice.
2003: Got my first console, a PSone. I enjoyed it, kept it for a year until I decided I wanted a PS2. Sold it to my mom (to give to the other kids) to help raise money.
2004: Bought a PS2. Was blown away.
2006: Sold my PS2 and PS2 games (stupid of me) because I wanted an oXbox. Should have just kept the PS2 and saved for an Xbox. Anyway, I knew I would have extra money, so I bought an N64 along the way. I still have this N64, so it's the console I've had longest. Just bought it as kind of a novelty, since it was really cheap. My family got an oXbox for Christmas, so I ended up not buying one after all.
2007: I got a lot of money over the summer saving and working for my grandma, so I bought a Dreamcast. Sonic Adventure was what attracted me in the first place, although it's not my favorite DC game anymore. Also got a SNES later that year, paid way too much for it ($70). It pays to research prices before you buy!
2008: I got a serious hankering to experience NiGHTS, so I bought a Saturn. I only had about $35, and Saturn prices were rather high at the time, so I had to try several times on Ebay before I managed to snag one. Some guy listed his Saturn in the wrong category, and I won it for I think $36. It came with a Sega brand memory cartridge, so I got a good deal. Then I got more money working over the summer again, and this time I spent it on a Gamecube.
2009: The family oXbox had died sometime over the last year, so I bought an oXbox for myself. Found a complete NES with a game at a thrift store for $8, figured even if I ended up not liking it, hey, $8 is a great price. Also bought a DS Lite on Ebay, just thought it might be a fun diversion. Didn't have any idea how great Chrono Trigger was going to be. I had a lot of PS1 games lying around that I was unable to play, so I bought another PSone. Later, I found a PS2 at Goodwill, for $12. It was initially broken, the entire inside was caked with years of dust. There was literally a layer of dust that I peeled off the disc lens. I fixed it up, and it's worked well ever since.
2010: I did a bunch of work, saved up a bunch of money, and bought a 160 gb PS3 Slim a few days after they came out. Turns out, I like PS3 a lot better than I ever liked the 360. One of my brothers sold his model 1 Genesis to me for $12 at some point that year.
2011: Caught Sega fever again, went and bought a Sega CD off ebay. I got a great deal on it, it came with a model 2 Genesis, and like 10 games. Only paid 30-something bucks for it, it was being sold as-is in a buy-it-now, straight from one of those auctions where they sell off all the stuff of someone who died. It came broken, but it was just the fuse, easily fixed. Came into money shortly after getting my driver's license in March, and so my first solo drive was to Gamestop, to buy my PSP 3000. I sold my DS Lite in anticipation of the 3DS shortly before launch, but I still wanted to be able to play stuff like WarioWare Twisted, so I bought a GBA SP, model 101.
Here's a list of the systems I had along the way, but don't have today:
My first PSone
My first PS2
An Xbox 360 Core, bought it on Black Friday in 2006. It broke early 2010, out of warranty.
My second PS2, which I found at Goodwill, an was given for Christmas in 2008. Broke within a year.
A PS1, original model. Came as part of a Craigslist bundle I bought last year, but I didn't need a third way to play PS1 games, so I sold it.
A PS2 Slim I found either last year or this year, can't remember. I only bought it to fix up and sell for profit, which I did.
An N64, also part of a Craigslist bundle, which I got over this past summer. Only wanted the memory card it came with, sold all the rest for profit.
A SNES, once more, from a Craigslist bundle from this past summer. It came with a game I wanted, sold the system. Profit was made.
