Re: Your Console History
I first started off playing my brother's PS1 and N64, I had a blast playing GoldenEye when I was three
. I think sometime after that I accidentally broke his PS1 by touching the laser so he got a PS2 not too long after launch, I got a Gameboy Color sometime after that. The PS2 has been my favorite console ever since, and when my brother went off to college he handed down all his old systems to me. Sadly the PS2 is still not around, but it lasted a very impressive 10 years, fortunately I got a slim a day or too after it broke. After that somewhere around 2006 I got a PSP which I had a blast with, I think my most played games with that were Pursuit Force and Twisted Metal. I've been having problems with it so I didn't touch it in a while. The PS3 I bought in 2007, at 600 bucks. I guess I was really eager to get one : P it had a rough start but shaped but to be a fantastic console. It only lasted 3 years but I got a replacement after it bricked. I then got a DS, and I really like it for visual novels like Hotel Dusk and the Phoenix Wright series. About a year after that I got a Dreamcast, but I did not use it because there weren't too many good games for it around here, but 2 years after that I finally found some great Dreamcast games. I got an original Xbox before the 360 in November 2010, which was a good idea because the backwards compatibility on the 360 is dreadful. For the Christmas of '10 I got a 360, I had one before but it's a long story that would make this a mountain of text instead of a wall, lol. In the summer I got a Gamecube which I haven't played too much yet but it's a great console. Sometime after that I got a Wii, which has many appealing games but you have to sift through a ton of shovelware to find them, but I think it's much better than most people say.

Re: Your Console History
I was an ADHD kid in 1984. I used to go over to my neighbors and play their 2600 all the time. When I was 6 my sister gave me my very first video game, Astroblast for the 2600. Unfortunately I didn't have any video game systems.
On my 8th birthday, I got a 7800. Thats was awesome until 1988 when Nintendo suddenly became big. So my folks ended up getting me and my sister one I think it was either 1989 or 1990.
About 1993, I had saved enough cash to buy a Sega Genesis and I got a Sega CD I think 1995. Have a tons of great memories from that era...
About 1995, I was getting stacks of old games from people I knew because they didn't want them anymore. I traded and got a gameboy and original 2600. I even picked up a broken Game Gear that SEGA repaired for a small premium. That was the turning point. I owned most of the 8 bit era when I had gone to a garage sale and picked up a Master system with a huge stack of games. Some people found out that I had a knack for picking up Genesis systems and traded one for an Intellivision, TG16, and a bunch of NES games. Later that year Virtual Boy dropped overnight to $30 so I snatched the last one at Target along with a few game.
1996 I got my first job so we all know where 90% of my paychecks went into. Plus I worked at the Mall of America where there were 5 different video game stores that I went into on a regular basis. I picked up 32x later that year when they went down to $19.99. Despite the fact I hadnt owned an SNES up to that point, I ended up getting a modded Super Famicom from a chain that was closing and I happened to be there at the right time. I was so enamored with actually owning one that I mad a stupid decision to get Japanese Dragon Quest 1 and 2 over an American Chrono Trigger. Mainly because I cant read or speak Japanese. Eventually I did get both Chrono Trigger and FF6 (3) for $50 because a co worker didnt want them anymore.
Later in 1997, I bought a Saturn first, then a Sony Playstation and enjoyed the hell out of them. Vowing to skip the N64 for monetary reasons, I ended up winning a brand new one in a giveaway contest at an independent chain. So at that point I had quite a few systems in my budding collection. Despite that, the hunger consumed me. I was wandering the MoA on my day off when I saw that Kay Bee Toys was clearing out their Jaguar stock so I couldn't resist.
I cant remember when I got my 3do, but I think it was in 1998 from a trade or something. Anyhow I ended up with two because someone discarded one at a Goodwill. My Neo Geo AES came from a girl friend who knew I didn't have one.
In 1999 I was a supervisor at Software ETC (Gamestop) when the Dreamcast was announced and I bought one immediately. Actually I bought it a week after because the a guy came to trade a brand new one in because he lost his receipt and his girl broke up with him. I guess he bought it for her kid or something. Now that I think about it, thats a freaking suspicious story...Although one day went the manager was off, a guy came in and asked if we bought games from like 15 years ago. I told him that the company bought only did more recent generation systems. He asked if I would buy them. I said a quiet "Yes." Dude came back a week later with seriously 3 2' x 3' x 2' boxes packed with everything imaginable and he walked out with a $50 check.
In 2000 I worked at an independent chain so I could increase my rare offerings and ended up with a bunch of ps1 games, a complete Lynx package, and most uncommon games because the owner changed him mind about buying video games for unpopular systems.
Of course, 2002 came and I started with a Gamecube, then a PS2, and then ultimately the XBOX. My apartment was crammed full and I had to most of my collection into storage. My brand new Coleco and broken but not broken Neo Geo CD were starting to take up space. My neat little Neo Geo Pocket could fit into my pocket...
Before I moved into my house, I bought a cheap 360 in 2006, a cheap PS3 in 2009, and a cheap Wii in 2010. I felt enamored, I was close... and now I had room to expanded. To ebay I went, searching and sniping my way! Vectrex! Channel F! and CdI! Arcadia and 5200 were hard to get! But nothing would stop me for the last system yet! The Odyssey was always some how beyond me reach.
Then one day I used the power of ebay and clever skills to nab one, thus completing my hardware collection. Now I cackle whenever someone tells me they own every game system, but can only name 5....because I own them all!

Every forum I go on has a rule saying don't ressurect dead topics. If it's not in the first two pages of the forum I'm not going searching for it I'll just make a new thread. I don't care if YOU had this conversation before, I haven't. If you don't want to take part this time... don't, but don't just post as though to say "how dare you have a coversation someone else already had". I'm fairly sure someone probably discussed whether the Sega Saturn was overrated before, didn't stop us having an interesting discussion though did it.swiftzx wrote:http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... chronology
Sorry about this post for everyone elses sake but I hate conceited pricks on message boards who assume a conversation is invalid because someone else I don't know had it 8 months ago when I wasn't even a member here. It's insulting passive agressive trolling that only serves to alienate new members and I won't be bullied by someone like this. Now... back on topic...

Re: Your Console History
I bet you do. I have my Master System, 3DO, Dreamcast, PSOne, Gamecube, Xbox and PS2... that's only 7 consoles and that feels like a lot. That said, I sold/traded in my entire Mega Drive and PSOne collections bit by bit to buy stuff for my later systems so my collection game wise is annoyingly small. I have almost no games at this point. In fact, every game I own fits on a single 8-foot long shelf with space for a few books on the same shelf. It's why I'm loving eBay at the moment, it's really helping me build my collection. I'm currently working on lesser known PS2 games and the odd Gamecube game.weaponepsilon wrote:Now I cackle whenever someone tells me they own every game system, but can only name 5....because I own them all!
Do you still have all those consoles, in working order? I find it incredible how many people keep so many consoles working. I managed to break my Sega Multi-Mega, Dreamcast and 3DO just through overuse basically and I've gone though two Xbox 360s but I still claim at least one of those is not my fault.

Yeah, but it clutters up our boards with multiple of the same topic when we JUST talked about this. Why have multiple conversations when we can just have the one?TornadoCreator wrote:Every forum I go on has a rule saying don't ressurect dead topics. Here's an idea: if you haven't had the conversation before, post in the other thread. Simple, right? NOW YOU ARE A PART OF THE CONVERSATION.
We are not a forum that wants dead topics dead. We relive old threads all the time. You have to be able to go with how each individual forum is. WE ARE NOT THE SAME.
The term "lurk moar" seems to be appropriate in this case.
If you have THAT much of an issue with some of us rather having a single topic instead of having multiple, then you are fucking free to leave. Because this is how we roll.
And on a side note, 3,000th post!

Different forums have different precedents when it comes to bumping old threads or making new ones. Here, it's preferred to bump old ones. From the rules sticky:
He was doing nothing other than what's stated in the rules and guidelines, no need to insinuate that he's a 'conceited prick' for posting a link.racketboy wrote:

- Read up before asking! There are tons of guides and existing threads with additional info.
- When other people (especially new members) fail to search and start new threads on old topics, don't scold them or make them feel unwelcome. The best way to
be helpful is by posting a link to a previous relevant thread.- Do not cross-post questions - Posting a thread in more than one forum is annoying and thus not allowed. Just post it once in the correct place.

Re: Your Console History
I have had to do my own repairs, not a huge problem actually. Almost all are in fine condition. Because of my experience in repair work, I have bought many consoles "broken" legit or otherwise and fixed them up. I bought my ps3 broken because the guy jacked up the drive and I called Sony who offered me $150 to fix it. Two minutes later, I had the system apart. Turned out the guy who owned it tried to punch the disc into the drive or something because the feed dogs and gears were blown out. It was simply a matter of putting them back into place. I saved about $250 on that investment alone plus not having to pay Sony and now I have a discontinued fully backwards compatible unit. Same for my NGCD, my PSP, and Nomad.TornadoCreator wrote:

Re: Your Console History
I never sell gaming stuff so everything is still with me. I think the order goes like this.
Gamecube
Gameboy player
Wii (First console I bought myself)
N64
GBA
GC
Gameboy player
Saturn
MicroVision (not working right now)
NES
I still want to get:
Genesis model 1 non tmss
Dreamcast
SNES
Super Gameboy
Master System model 1
Atari 7800 early model with expansion port
and maybe some handhelds but I haven't thought about it much.

Re: Your Console History
I don't exactly remember the years I got anything except my N64, so bear with me here.
2000 or so- Got a GameBoy Advance. Had lots of different games, had lots of fun with all of them. Eventually got a SP later.
2003 or so- Gamecube. Dang, I loved this. I still do. It has a Gameboy player for extra fun, along with the great library.
2008- Xbox 360. Hahaha, I actually have a large library of games on here I am wanting to buy, because for some reason this one seems to be chock full for me. I still have my 60 gig fat one, the last release before the slim. I plan on updating to the slim at some point, but not yet.
2011-N64. I don't fiond all too many games I'm after (~10), but most of them are high quality, so I can't complain.
