Enough reason to leave it on.
That historical and nostalgic value will only grow with age...
But it's no reason to have any qualms if the tab was already cut--at least unless someone did a shitty job of it. If someone thinks having their collection look nice on the shelf is more important than the novelty of "wow, this box still has its cherry after all these years" I'm not going to look down on their decision in the slightest.

So, anyone who has Genesis games with hang tabs and doesn't want them, please, feel free and welcome to send them my way.
I'll send you my cases with tabs on them... $10 each!
Nah, but really, I think I have a few cases with tabs, and I really don't care about the tabs. If you ever wanna trade a case you have with the tab cut off for one of mine with the tab on it, just let me know.
It never even occured to me to do that until I just read it here. There is no way in hell I would mutilate my Mega Drive cases. But, to be fair, they are a bit annoying.
I just checked and I have probably 8 games with the tab removed, I'm just having trouble imagining anybody doing that!
I don't have that many American Genesis games but I would never cut off the tabs. Honestly, I prefer if they don't have tabs but I don't care enough to cut them off myself. If I bought a used Genesis game and noticed that the previous owner cut off the tabs, it would bother me slightly.
Same deal with the registration cards, spine cards, etc. I prefer to have all of that stuff but don't mind if it's missing.
In other words, I like my games to be as complete as possible but I'm not crazy OCD about the impractical stuff.
I'm too lazy to bother to cut the tabs but I remember working at a store that cut them so they fit beter in the storage case. Good thing Sega decided to g owith paper boxes!
Plus loose carts are like spanish fly to me, no tabs to worry about there!
I never cut the tabs off Genesis cases, nor do I buy them with the tab already cut off. I am probably the most OCD about the condition of my games, and I feel like I have a broken item when the tabs are gone. I have turned down many Genesis/Master System games just based on a missing tab.
