Generally speaking though, you're using cover, right? It was pretty rare that I got close enough to use H2H in the first one - usually only when not given a choice.
yeah i'm using cover. im at the part right after the first boat ski, which was annoying. to be honest i have not been much into shooters so all this cover crap is actually new to me. i think if it was a bit more polished i might of enjoyed it. again i like the characters and the story interests me. i even like the setting. i find it to be very repetitive though. the whole game uses the cover system and you never really can just get on your feet and shoot down some baddies. there is no variation. you walk a bit run into baddies shoot them down, pick up ammo and then another wave comes. i did like the chase scene on the jeep and found it to be amusing. also, i don't actually need hand to hand, i just willingly choose to do it a few times out of boredom of doing the same thing.

in retrospect, my complaining doesn't matter, i have become addicted to the story and no amount of complaining can change what this game is. im gonna finish it, and i still have intentions to see what all the talk is about on the squeal.

That's generally how cover based shooters tend to go. Try, say, Gears of War - same deal. Or, for a different tack, hacking through scores of enemies in GoW, DMC, Bayonetta, whatever.

Maybe it didn't get to me as much since, given the option in most FPS, I'll tend to try picking enemies off at a distance over running and gunning. I'd agree though, it can get tiresome after a while.

The second game still has a bit of that - just with a little bit more in terms of options, and more interesting set pieces/events to play through. Honestly, there are some sequences in that game that I found plain impressive.
Though, they do kind of run out of much to do except shoot stuff right near the end - but that's an admitted flaw that they want to avoid in Uncharted 3.

Just started playing this one tonight. I'm actually enjoying the combat so far, but I'm anticipating repetition after reading this topic!

I will say that the voice acting in this game is amazing, and the pacing of the story is as well. Looking forward to the rest of it, and the second game afterwards!

Just noticed that this topic is still alive! I ended up selling this game because I could not handle the repetition. Maybe I should just pick up the 2nd one and hope that one is better.

Meh, I played it through on Hard the first time and never really ran into much trouble aside from a few cheap kills. It's not that hard seriously. You guys are just pussies, need to sharpen up your skills. The second one frustrated me far more when playing through on Hard (first time), so many cheap kills in that, don't even get me started on the final boss battle, took me a couple of hours alone to beat that cheap fucker. Jesus, it felt good to put that fucker to rest though. Felt like I had climbed everest or something.

Wait what? It wasn't that hard at all. This is the definition of someone being a pussy. Man the fuck up and memorize simple patterns.

I was playing on HARD he can kill you just by looking at you. You have to be constantly moving to survive.
