That's two things that we should almost all like here. Cheap, efficient hardware and a ton of great games to get for it. If anyone here honestly still harbors a grudge against Nintendo, I really can't understand why from a retro standpoint.

I like Nintendo, but I'll always be a Sega guy at heart.

Re: Damn Nintendo Fanboys
I guess I'll throw in, for a lack of a better phrase, my 50 cents on this subject. Seems like Nintendo v Sega is being mentioned yet again.
Collecting for the SNES is much more expensive than the Genesis and rightfully so due to demand. Finding CIB games are a daunting task too thanks to the cardboard boxes. Just think... while everyone else has at it, CIB Genesis games are slim pickings. The hate works to the advantage of the Sega collectors (after all, they are always directed to them since they can't get over the console rivalry). More for us! Get it? I hope so. Keep this in mind.
Don't get me wrong. I like the NES and SNES when it comes to Nintendo. I like a variety of classic game systems. I can't stand restricting myself to one company especially because of some retarded fanboy pledge. There are, in fact, more pro-Nintendo fanboys out there than fanboys of any other company (Note: I'm only referring to the retro gaming community. I know there are a crap load of Sony fanboys out there but they don't count as retro now do they?). Their perceptions are merely skewed, causing them to lose out on everything else. There shouldn't be fanboys period (in our perfect little world) but nothings going to change the fact that they exist. Just face the fact that you'll have to deal with them since they are everywhere retro-oriented you go.
Even people who aren't dedicated fanboys (general public, i.e. the majority) often tend to give Nintendo more credit and think of the company of old when retro games come to mind, while completely discrediting (or remaining ignorant of) other companies' influences, contributions, and innovations in the game industry. It's just how it is. As long one remains unbiased is all that matters and they'll enjoy the best of each world. I've seen my fair share of people rating great consoles lower on the list while having 3+ Nintendo systems in their top 5. It's a recurring trend. Poll ratings are stupid for the most part and should not be taken seriously.
To quote MrPopo, 'the losing horse' bought out the best in the SNES. Any console with a great library of games (and in the case of Sega, the overthrow of Nintendo's iron grip on 3rd party companies) is a winner. Enjoy both. Let the fanboys wet themselves when they think of their company of choice.
Also, IGN sucks.

He might be referring to the odd phenomenon wherein the Master System somehow became a dominant platform in Brazil. Although from my understanding it did get less of a slaughter in Europe than in North America.

Perhaps. Though I did spend a large portion of my childhood in Europe and like the states, I never saw the MS or Gen/MD anywhere near as prevalent as the NES or SNES.flamepanther wrote:He might be referring to the odd phenomenon wherein the Master System somehow became a dominant platform in Brazil. The Brazil situation is pretty unique though~ Don't they still make Saturns?? Tek something company...

Strange, I never saw a NES until a few years back, but when I was a kid everyone had either a master system or a commodore 64.D.D.D. wrote:Perhaps. The SMS wasn't bludgeoned by the NES in Europe. There was even a rap made for it. That's how prelavant it was.
As for the Mega Drive, there was a boat ride of some sort at Alton Towers back in the day and there was an area for Sonic. Here's a video the lost ride. Start watching at 2:50.
Sega had more of an influence everywhere except Japan.
