Looking for some suggestions of lesser known titles I haven't hit up yet, as I really dig these kind of games. Although I'm not sure what to think of Illusion of Gaia so far... think I had more fun with Soul Blazer and definitely Terranigma.
But yeah I'm wondering if there's more games like these, along with Secret of Mana, Seiken Densetsu 3, and Secret of Evermore.
Let's not get into the Zelda thing, but it can definitely count for the sort of stuff I'm looking for here. Action/Adventure/RPG overhead stuff basically. I've been in the mood for strictly SNES stuff so hopefully there's more out there.

These might suit your needs, and I think they all have translations:
Alcahest
Gulliver Boy
Gunman's Proof

Alcahest! Thank you. I wanted to mention that one but couldn't remember the name at all, I played a little of it awhile back and it seemed pretty awesome.

Ys V: Kefin, The Lost City of Sand
edit: AFAIK, there's no translation. It'd help to know Japanese.

Dang, I was just going to ask that. It looks pretty cool, didn't even know it existed until now lol (I only knew of Y's III on the SNES).Opa Opa wrote:Ys V: Kefin, The Lost City of Sand

Give Brain Lord a try.

At first I was scratching my head at this because I thought of Metal Warriors, haha. This does look pretty cool though.flojocabron wrote:not really the same as the JRPG's you're used to, but Metal Marines can fill your tactics needs for the snes

That's pretty much it. I wish more of these types of games were made, because they too are my favorite genre. The Soul Blazer series and Seiken Densetsu series are some of my favorites of all games.
The only ones I can really add is Lord of the Rings and Shadowrun, but they're not nearly as good as SB/SD series. You might also want to try out Drakkhen and Dragon View, although those are side-scrolling/weird angles rather than the top down 3rd person angle.

Yeah, I definitely wasn't expecting much out of this topic to be honest, so just 2-3 new finds is enough to make me happy here.
I really wish Legend of Mana was good, lol. It's not terrible, but last I remember they really stripped a lot of the RPG elements from the first two games and couldn't you only have two characters instead of three? But yeah, I think the SNES games and Evermore are just so damn fun it's insane, I absolutely wish there was more games like that and with the whole on the fly sphere menu system. Definitely some of the most replayable games out there to me. Think I'm preparing for another run of SD3 sometime soon. I guess that's the plus side to this genre, there's not a lot, but I seriously seem to find myself replaying some of them like once a year.
I guess if you guys can now think of other games on other systems go ahead and list them. I still won't expect much though even with that said. I do own Alundra (PSX) and played a bit of it awhile back, it was really awesome, not sure why I put it down but I'll have to really get into it someday. Until then, just been in a crazy SNES mood lately so that's why I was kind of specific about that for now.
