Just finished Call of Duty Classic (aka CoD1) the other night. So I decided to jump right into Call of Duty 2 (360).
So far, I'm impressed by the graphical upgrade. But the regenerating health system and frequent checkpoints are starting to piss me off because it lowers the difficulty too much. I strongly prefer the challenge of having a health bar and only a few checkpoints during each level, because it forces you to come up with the best strategy to make it through alive when there are limited health regenerators (or packs) available.
What single player FPS campaign are you playing?

I still want to give the first CoD campaign a shot sometime. Is it longer than 3 hours? I loath the series outside of CoD4, but I hear the first one is pretty strong.

The first and second are actually really good. If you liked CoD4 then you'd probably like 2. It feels a lot like it IMO.Xeogred wrote:I still want to give the first CoD campaign a shot sometime. Older. Not wiser.

I played it a year or two ago, still holds up well. The last level is really impressive.

Infinity Ward went straight from developing 2 to 4 (Treyarch made 3), so that's why. I probably sound like a fanboy saying this, but IW makes COD so much better than Treyarch, especially before World at War.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:The first and second are actually really good. Been playing Gears of War 2 for a while.

About to finish Metro 2033. I've come to the realisation that beneath all this visual flair is a basic, linear FPS that is frustrating at times. The story is nowhere near as interesting compared to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games either.

It may be linear, but the atmosphere is pretty epic, in my opinion.
I'm kind of in the middle of trying to pick up several FPS campaigns I've let languish. I keep noobing out in my Doom 2 game while I keep falling victim to random asshattery in the level design of Dark Forces and Doom 3.

I gotta say I didn't really dig Metro 2033 either. I didn't play more than a few hours, but you were constantly with other NPC's and that sort of thing just really ruined any potential tension for me. It needed to be more lonely and claustrophobic... maybe it does later on, but yeah. Just wasn't that impressed.
Dark Forces is awesome but certainly has some wacky level design, kind of like DN3D or something.

I'm at the point where I break Crix Madine out of prison, and the level is covered with mines. Fucking mines. But yes, after the first couple levels of Metro you're on your own for the majority of the game. You might be with an NPC for a small part (a couple hold ground missions) but the rest is solo.
