Eh, it's not bad considering it's in the top five of most visited "news" sites.

The data is as of October 3, 2002 (nearly 10 years ago!) It'd be nice if they'd update it.

And BTW, it's called soda. /discussion.

Calling it soda or pop is one thing. Tennis shoes or sneakers, petrol or gas, etc.

Calling it coke is like calling cotton swabs Q-Tips or adhesive bandages Band-Aids. They're brand names, not the actual name of the item. Like calling all glass cleaners Windex, even when it's the off brand. Here, if I say I want a Coke, one would assume I'm talking about the very specific type of cola, Coca-Cola (or "Coke" for short). Coke is the brand name. Cola is the product. Cola is just one of many different types of sodas/pops. So saying, "I want a soda," you might be wanting a ginger ale or a root beer or a cream soda. Saying you want a Coke, you just ruled out all but one type of soda.

By the way, that makes me think, for those of you that call it "pop" what do you call cream soda? Do you call it cream pop? Does the bottle actually say cream pop on it?

And while I'm on that train of thought... didn't "pop" derive from "soda pop". So shortening it by calling it either or isn't really wrong, now is it?

Have you ever stopped to think, then forgot to start again?
