Of the FF games I've played, I think FF X, FF X 2(despite my overall dislike for it), FF 13 and FF 12 had the best combat systems. They all strayed very far from the usual combat formula and all for the better IMO. I'd throw in Crisis Core too if that countsbrunoafh wrote:IV is my favorite, but I'm sure a lot of you already know that. V and VI come after at a tie.
I kind of think X is the best game overall though, due to the excellent battle system. It's just traditional turn based combat at it's absolute finest. X falls flat when it comes to story and characters unfortunately, but for me the gameplay and music more than make up for the flaws.

I was more talking about it being developed for the ps1, not being ported to it

Re: Your Favorite Final Fantasy
It wasnt made for the PS1, all you got was a SNES port. I have it on the anthologies or chronicles are what have you as well. But you are basically playing a SNES game on a PS1TornadoCreator wrote:Final Fantasy VI was on the PSOne, I own it. We never got the SNES version though so for us VII came first as VI wasn't released until 2002, a solid 5 years after VII (and for some reason North America got it in 1999, they already got it on the SNES once Square, how about us Europeans you ignorant devs).dunpeal2064 wrote:Its cliche, but for me its VII. Now, I don't find it to be the best Final Fantasy, but due to nostalgia, its my favorite.
If I had to go for the FF that I found to be the most well made, I would pick Final Fantasy IX.
I also hold both VI and X very highly though. I think that if VI would have been made on the ps1, no one would have given VII any of the credit. As far as mixing customizable/unique characters, I think VI did it best.
I love having the ability to choose what magic/stats I learn, while still having characters that have moves unique to them. Plus, the story/art/music/massive amount of characters/espers... such a great game.

No question VI. I'm getting impatient for its American PSN release.

Re: Your Favorite Final Fantasy
My favourite Final Fantasy, no joke, is FF1. Even more so with the GBA and PSP remakes. I just love it in every possible way.
After that, 2 & 3 can bite me, 4-6 are all awesome in their own ways, 7 & 8 can die in a fire, 9 was final fantasy old & new perfected, and everything afterwards has been horseshit.
Just my opinion of course. Usually this topic is as interesting as "what genre is Zelda", but what the hell, I feel like there hasn't been much to say lately.

To be honest, I love Final Fantasy I, it's a great game and I've played it through multiple times on the PSOne version. It's got it's silly moments sure, but it's an interesting game and it's good to see how the series started. Oh, does anyone actually use Black Belts? I never did, they just bored me.
Re: Your Favorite Final Fantasy
I'm going to have to say I agree that FFX really excelled when it came to gameplay, graphics, and music (definitely some of Uematsu's best). But I also agree with brunoafh that I find FFX's story and characters to be among the weakest in the whole franchise. I love making fun of the game since I have a few friends that have only completed that one, so naturally it's of course their top favorite when they haven't touched any other game in the series... but yeah, all in all I still think it's a good game. It makes you feel old and awkward when you remember Square was still Square Soft with that one as well, lol.Gamerforlife wrote:Of the FF games I've played, I think FF X, FF X 2(despite my overall dislike for it), FF 13 and FF 12 had the best combat systems. Mine is VIII, despite the flawed battle system I enjoyed the game far more than any other entries in the series. The first disc is in my view as close to perfect gaming as it comes, I love the school setting.

I know a lot of people on here know what my least favorite is.
As far as a favorite...
Probably a tie between VI (SNES) or I (PSP).
