Depends who is on pricing that day, the same store that I got Diablo Boxed and complete for $2, had next to it Max Payne 2 for $15.
Always the case, even in big chain stores like Savers, depends who is pricing and what they think its worth.

I'm really surprised at what i'm reading here.
Goodwill is not for profit, their "profit" goes into educational programs, job-training programs, and other established community programs including women's shelters and food shelves.
So you walked in there expecting to buy a game for $5 and flip it for $20, but now the local goodwill realizes it can get $20 for their outreach programs and "we" are pissing about it on the finds of the day. Wow.

Well I found a craigs list add for 2 stands and the price was $30 each or both for $50.
I enjoy sega so I figured I would have extra room.

Re: Video Game "Finds of the Day"
goodwill is not all they are cracked up to be. we've had threads about this on this forum before. a lot of the clothing donations are sold (not donated) to textile mills in third world countries for "a modest profit," that isn't reinvested into anyone's community. their CEO ranks among the top 1% wealthiest americans. they aren't a "charity" at all, but they do donate a considerable amount of money to charity programs. the "job training" line is kinda bullshit, because the majority of their "job training" programs are for their own employees in their own stores. they basically run their business like a retail store; the main difference is that they do not pay for the grand majority of the items they sell.mjmjr25 wrote:I'm really surprised at what i'm reading here.

wal-mart, target, other big box retailers donate time and money to similar community outreach programs, and those that sell used goods actually pay for them. goodwill is not that much more of a charity, really.
i'm not saying they are totally worthless, but they do a really good job of painting a charitable picture of themselves when it's really not the case.
when it comes to seeing something overpriced in their stores, i generally treat it the same way that i treat something else that i don't want to pay full price for. i don't buy it. i don't feel like i'm entitled to pay next to nothing for a mint copy of earthbound, but i'd rather pay $90 for it to some kid who was going to donate it to goodwill not knowing how much it was worth than to give goodwill the $90 for just looking something up on the internet.

People forget that accepting donations is as much a valuable community service as re-selling them cheaply is. Otherwise most of those things people don't want anymore, including our precious old video games, would be in a landfill.
Mormon thrift store:

SNES SuperScope in box with sights thingy: $4.00
- the SuperScope receiver was unfortunately not in the box, but an SNES mouse is for some reason!
Bionic Commando (NES) - $3.00
Double Dragon (NES) - $3.00
Shinobi (NES) - $3.00
NHL Championship 2000 (PS1) - $3.00 - worthless sports game I know, but a nice addition to my hockey games collection

The Super Scope is so rad! I really wish they made more games for it.. It gets too much of a bum rap, in my opinion.. The Lazer Blazer games are still fun as hell for score-challenging!
Found Normy's Beach Babe-O-Rama for the Genny today for $2.50..
I'm sure it's not worth anything, but c'mon - It's a Genesis game by Electronic Arts called Beach Babe-O-Rama!

Re: Video Game "Finds of the Day"
It all depends who works at whatever particular Goodwill. None of the folks working at any of my local ones are savvy enough to price games or accessories accordingly, so I get some good deals. Not to mention these people are usually on the fringe of employability, not seasoned collectible apprasiers.
There are some head scratcher's though, like seeing a boxed copy of NBA Live 2000 for PC going for $10 next to loose carts of A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask for $2 each.
And to stay on topic, not an epic find and I really don't need more of these, but last week at Goodwill I found two 3 button Genesis controllers, one with the red lettering, each $2.

Eh, this is a topic that can turn a million diff. ways and this is an important thread on this site, so I won't go on derailing it any further off point.
I will say aaron, you are right in this regard - if you don't like the price, don't but it. Pretty simple.
I guess were living in glass houses (not you aaron, the collective "we") though cuz some of the people in this thread who are saying that goodwill should price low and "people in my County know how to price things, which doesnt help me!"
and "People forget that accepting donations is as much a valuable community service as re-selling them cheaply is."
@50DC, you have posted some amazing finds on this particular thread - I mean insane finds. But as I check your b/s/t, your prices are in line with everyone else?
007: GoldenEye: $8.00
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time: $12.00
Banjo-Kazooie: $10.00
Glover: $3.00
Blast Corps (torn label): $3.00
WCW Nitro: $3.00
Jet Force Gemini: $4.00
Super Mario 64: $12.00
So where's the sense of community - you know, "reselling them cheaply"? Hmmm.
@Hazerd - you posted Hagane in this thread, I think you paid what was it? $2.43? I pm'd you as you stated you didn't know much about it and were considering moving it. What was the asking price? $2.43? No. $20? No. $75? No. You wanted a copy of earthbound, and that was about it. I would've asked for the same thing. But I WOULDN'T go posting about how the goodwill owes me deals.
Its pretty nice to think we could all give away our stuff for great prices, but in reality, none of us really can afford to leave money on the table - including me, you and goodwill.

Re: Video Game "Finds of the Day"
My thoughts on Goodwill...
1. Goodwill customers shop there because they either: A) Need to, or B) Want to find Bargains. Obviously, most of us on Racketboy want to find bargains.
2. Many stores will price themselves out of buyers. Which, to us, is incredibly frustrating. I've seen stacks of games and systems that I would probably buy if they were reasonably priced. I'm not going to buy an untested Gamecube without cords for thirty bucks. I'm sorry.
3. At the end of the day, it is a charity. At least the ones that I shop at. Many employees have developmental disabilities, and as someone who has worked in that field, I greatly appreciate the opportunities they give to people like the ones I have worked with.
4. Goodwill and I have a symbiotic relationship. I give them a bunch of crap I don't want. They give me a 20% coupon. I buy games for cheap. Sometimes, I flip them for a profit. That's what their business is based on: Bargain Hunting. That's what keeps me donating: I know karma will do me good.
