Is Geist Force actually a good game?

Post by Busomjack »

Graphically the game sure looks impressive but if I remember correctly, Sega said the reason it was cancelled is because it didn't live up to their standards of quality. This coming from the same company that approved of and developed Sonic Shuffle so I take such a statement with a grain of salt.

Also, just how close to complete is the game?

The version we are getting will be a 1.0 beta of the game. It was developed before the Dreamcast hardware was finalized, and as such, pushes the Dreamcast like no other.

Here is what Assembler said about the game.

Some news on the fixed version. Geist Force code is pre-dreamcast hardware. It
has no vmu, no rumble, no pause.

It also has gigantic draw distance and more polygons than most dreamcast
games I have ever seen.

Having played it extensively for testing, it is possible to overload and overheat the
dreamcast with geist force.

It may be necessary to add a fan to the dreamcast for this game, and for optimal
gameplay OVERCLOCK the dreamcast.

It is fully playable on a normal unmodded dreamcast, it's just required you stop
shooting during slowdown, then machine does not overheat and reset.

Some example:

In one stage the game spawns 4-5 rotating black hole galaxies and
5-10 gigantic planetary fortresses. Add in enemies and the game
slows down considerably. I would consider the visuals to be XBOX
quality and pushes the dreamcast something terrible.

Note: Metal heat pipe units seem to be immune from overheat.

So as you can see from that post, you might want to overclock and or add a better fan to the system.

If you want to stay updated on it, go to these subforume.

Gameplay video so you can see for yourself. Its on NullDC Dreamcast emulator for PC at 1080p, so that is why there are things missing and it has slowdown with recording with FRAPS.

That is because it is an unreleased game, a "Holy Grail" if you will. We will all get our hands on it in the next few months, I can assure you.

I heard the version that the Assembler crew have is mostly barren of enemies.

If they all ready have a working selfboot, why is not in the public domain yet? I see they are asking for donations, is it not being released until a certain amount is raised?

No, they have all the donations they need. The people who donated are getting a mil cd 2-3 months before it's released for dl. The disc pressing hasn't gone well so far

We were supposed to hear something Monday but no news yet.
