because they were making an MMO all this time. Idiots. Just when I was enjoying the franchise, SE had to ruin it by making Dragon Quest X an online game.
Update: Well, we're not sure how the game is going to work out. You can play the game offline if you want, but you will need to play online if you want to finish the game 100%. TBH, the game really looks like an MMO game if you've seen the footages.
You know why Dragon Quest X took so long to be announced?
Re: You know why Dragon Quest X took so long to be announced?
I'm hoping it'll still have a massive game offline, and that the online components are basically social elements, and special quests and stuff. If the majority of the game is online, then well,

just read another article and they said that you cannot play the entire game offline, so I don't know what to believe now.

Well, the game isn't coming till like 2013 in the states, so the best thing to do is probably wait. Hell, it was just shown off for the first time last night. Soon we will get some confirmation.

I havent really read up on this game but will it be like Phantasy Star Online? Like you can play the main story offline but there are many quests to be done online.

I have no interest in Dragon Quest, but this bugs me anyway. I hate this trend of turning single-player game series into huge multiplayer experiences. I want to play alone!

I think it's fine for them to make this game but it should not be a main entry in the series. Instead of calling it Dragon Quest X, they should have called it Dragon Quest Online.
Dragon Quest Sword and Dragon Quest Battle Road Victory were spin offs that got unique titles. That's what they should have done for this one.
I know Final Fantasy has some games randomly online in the main series, but that doesn't make it OK. It's just confusing.

The other thing I'm "enjoying" is the trend of waiting 3~5 years for a game to be completed from announcement.
