Re: VHS enthusiats
A bad tape can either leave a lot of deposits on the head and transports so that later tapes look worse when played or could stick and jam up the machine.

Enthusiast? No... I've hated the format since it existed. I can't stand rewinding or fast forwarding. Wait to watch? WTF is that? Then again, bluray is pretty damn slow on the start up too...

Re: VHS enthusiats
When DVDs came out I remember one of the selling points being that you could jump straight to the movie, no previews. Well we all know how long that lasted. Now it is easier to skip the previews on a VHS most of the time. Some DVDs I have will not let you skip the previews at all. I just don't like having a great feature that the companies pushed taken away.D.D.D. wrote:Wait to watch? WTF is that? Then again, bluray is pretty damn slow on the start up too...

I still have yet to ever run into this 'unskippable commercials/trailers' problem that everyone seems to always refer to when it comes to DVDs/Blu Rays. If the menu button won't work, the chapter skip button will.

I concur. But still can't find a decent way to do it on BRs...AppleQueso wrote:I still have yet to ever run into this 'unskippable commercials/trailers' problem that everyone seems to always refer to when it comes to DVDs/Blu Rays. If the menu button won't work, the chapter skip button will.

Other than the load screens and stuff, I've never noticed any real issue. Well except for that time I rented a BR from a redbox kiosk. That thing had like 60 fucking movie trailers and it wouldn't let me skip any of them.D.D.D. wrote:I concur. Re: VHS enthusiats
I would watch VHS more, but tons of movies are pan and scan which I hate. It's not a problem for films shot open matte, but the idea of watching 2001 or It's a Madx4 World panned and scanned makes me cringe.

Whats pan and scan?
@DDD
What do you mean wait to watch? just fast forward
Thats an advantage of VHS, fastforward to the movie
with DVDs some you can pass and some you cant
thats what happens to me.
Any way, I find the previews at the beginning a bit
entertaining , sometimes i DO want to watch them

When they take a movie that was originally widescreen, and crop off parts of the frame so that it fits a 4:3 screen.

Then you don't watch enough DVDs. WWE DVDs in particular (among others I've seen) are notorious for having unskippable trailers in the beginning. And neither the skip or menu buttons work to skip them.AppleQueso wrote:I still have yet to ever run into this 'unskippable commercials/trailers' problem that everyone seems to always refer to when it comes to DVDs/Blu Rays.
