The preorders thread

So, yeah. Just talk about preorders.

What's your opinion of them? What have you preordered recently? What notable thing's (Really good or really bad) have you preordered in the past?

For me, I use to never preorder things. Thought it was kind of a waste if I could just as easily go to the store and pick it up. But a little while back a book I really wanted became available for preorder on Amazon while they also had some special offer going on so I ordered it. It was such a great book that I didn't regret the preorder one bit, and started considering it for other things. Very recently I got two blu-ray anime DVD's in the mail that I had preordered about two months back. It was an anime that I had already seen (And is in fact my favourite anime) so I already knew it would be worth it. And this weekend I'll be setting a preorder through Amazon for Dark Souls. Spiritual successor (Lol, almost said sequel) to one of my absolute favourite games and a free upgrade to the limited edition with a bunch of extra's.

So, what about you guys?

I'm very OK with them. Lately I've had the problem with not being able to get out of the house to go get it, so I'll preorder off of say, Amazon, and get it release day, nice and shipped to my house. I like it. I do dislike pre order exclusives though, especiall if they are in any way important to the game.

I've only ever pre-ordered 4 things. Diablo II collector's, City of Heroes, Hellgate London collector's (oy vey), and the Max Headroom DVD set. D II of course was awesome, though the only extra that sees any use is the soundtrack disc. CoH gave me a day or 2 head start and reserved my name I was using in beta, though that was my first real MMO and I burned myelf out after a few months. Hellgate London, well I got a 'pet' and it was fun but of course things didn't go well and it is gone now. Max Headroom I still haven't watched because I can't pin down friends to watch it. The 2 friends I know would enjoy it don't live in Houston anymore.

If you intend to get a game anyway, getting extras can be cool. However if you are one to patronize GS, being asked if you want to preorder all the time is annoying.

I pre-order games I want from certain companies, like Atlus. If I don't, the game shops won't order any and I'll never see one because the print runs are so small.

Well I preorder games from time to time. Right now I have SotC/Ico, Dark Souls and Battlefield 3 all preordered and payed for. I only preorder games if its something I really want and maybe if theres some in game bonus unlock or something like battlefield 3 where if I buy used I have to pay more for some EA online pass.

Now for what sucks about preorders...

Gamestop employees need I say more? Yea I know they are forced to ask everyone about preordering every over hyped game but still that shit gets played out after a long day of buying used games at all the gamestops around me after the third I just start saying I want to preorder battletoads 2.

Also preorder bonuses aren't set in stone. Look at what happened with dark souls. Now I don't get a metal case or a guide book supposedly according to rumors (at least I hope they are only rumors).

No the metal case is a definite. The guide however is an enigma. Some sources say it comes with a physical guide, some say a downloadable one, some say none at all. It's very confusing.

I pre-ordered the standard one before I knew about the special edition version. The guys at GS asked if I wanted to switch to that version, but told me I could do it later if I wanted too. The extra money always sort of puts me off.....Still, may give in and do it anyway. It is coming out a week after my birthday. Maybe I'll splurge on a present to myself.

Catherine is the only game I've ever pre-ordered, cuz I was scared Gamestop wouldn't get it otherwise, and I needed it Day 1 with the soundtrack.
