Yep--I think it's good you posted this. While it certainly is "normal" for anyone (especially a teen) to be depressed from time to time, prolonged depression is a more serious issue. While I don't necessarily agree with medication as the answer for everyone, I do agree that professional help is always a safe option. The pursuit of drugs as a treatment should be the decision of the patient after all of the facts and alternatives are presented.DeckardBR wrote:Hey there, first time poster, long time lurker of this awesome site.
I thought this was a serious enough topic to post a reply on. Its true that everyone experiences depression at one point or another, especially during the sucky teenage years. But constant depression is something to be looked at seriously and is something you honestly don't have to live with.
If the OP feels that he is depressed most of the time, he should really seek out a professional doctor (psychiatrist) who may be able to get him some meds that will help. Now I know that some of you will go "Thats wrong, all those psychs give you meds you don't need" blah blah, but depression is a very real thing. And those meds are basically little packets of serotonin that the brain is missing that causes depression in the first place.
Now if FF13 doesn't get released soon, then I'll be pretty depressed also!
I have a personal question

I always thought that jumping off cliffs into mud was where it was at when i was little....then id go home and save Yellow from the clutches of the empire.lordofduct wrote:wow, the people here all sappy and stuff.
Tough up and get a tractor tire, it only goes down hill from here. Weeeeeeeeeee!!!!
[edit]
oddly googling "riding a tractor tire down hill" yields zero results. Why? Do people not do this anymore? I don't think I'd be the man I am today if I didn't stir my brain with the dizzying circular motion of zooming down a cliff side inside of a tractor tire. Staring at the soon to vomit face of you brother who is the only ting that isn't a blur of blue and green.
Whenever I feel depressed i just bottle it up, and live in a delusional state surrounded by music, movies and video games. Life is too big of a joke to be taken seriously. The more time you spend analyzing a joke, the less funny it is. Think about it.

I use video games to escape from depression alot of times but its very temporary.
Then I go onto bass, and it just kindof repeats. Alot of people talk about how excersize helps and it does, once again for just a little while. Grr so anoying.

Yeah, totally normal. Lots of good advice to heed in this thread. I'll add that you should keep an open line of communication with your parents and other family members. Make sure they understand how you're feeling and don't just think you're being lazy and/or rebellious. You're at the age where you're becoming more and more independent but don't write off the people who've been there for you all along. (I'm making a lot of assumptions here. Hopefully you live in a stable, caring environment.)
Plus you've got the virtual support of the folks here on the racketboy boards, on this issue anyway.

thanks, yea my parents are divorced but my dad takes good care of me bless his soul. Yea, I try to talk about things I feel with him but he has a hard time understanding sometimes, but he still listens which is good enough for me.xraydash wrote:Yeah, totally normal.
