I haven't heard about it, but after looking it up... it looks pretty awesome! I'm going to have to rearrange some PCs but it should be a lot of fun! :D
Hatta wrote: Nice. I need to get something in the 286-486 range. There's a pretty big gap between the 8088 and the P200 MMX. If you don't use it already, you should try 4dos. Much, much nicer than command.com.
I really like old DOS games and some of them are really hard to get working on modern PCs (even with emulators) so 286-486 comps can be really helpful. (Even with my old comp. it's still a pain to try running some things, like Ultima VI!)
I'll look into 4dos.

I love retro computers. Here's what I have.

Classic Computers
TI-99/4A
Tandy Color 3 w/ floppy drive and monitor
Commodore 64 w/ floppy drive

^ Those computers are great because they hook to the television, play cartridge games, and can basically be used as consoles.

I also have...

IBM-Compatibles
Tandy 1000
Amstrad PC-6400
Zeos 386
IBM ThinkPad w/ floppy and DVD drives (Windows 98)

Unfortunately I don't have much space in my game room so most of these are in the basement.

Here's my sexy, sexy Amstrad:

I have downsize my old pc collection - which was in the unmanageable range. Mostly because DOSbox got to an awesome level, but also because it was almost a room of pcs that were never turned on.

But I did keep three:
- My Uncles Apple ][+ with joystick and about 50 games (Castle Wolf, Ali Baba, Lode Runner, and Space Eggs to name a few). I cant bear to get rid of it, eventhough Apple ][ emulation is so good I can play all the games in my browser, since both he and I were named after my grandfather (his father obviously).
- My family's first home computer - Adam Colecovision. Also happens to be my Coleco...
- iMac G3 in Blueberry. But it automatically loads a version of linux and boots into a random SCUMMVM game. I thought about turning it into a Dreamcast, like the Divers, but gave up on that idea after I realized all the screws on the case were stripped.

Id love to get one more old PC that Ive never been able to find at a decent price, the IBM PS/2 Model 25. If I could get a working one, with shipping, for a low enough price I would jump on it. In elementary school they rolled them out when I was in second or third grade and we all wanted to get on one to play Treasure Mountain - which I was damn good at.

I'm jealous of that CoCo 3. They're really quite capable machines. Ever play with OS9?

I played on PS/2 systems back in the day but they're so proprietary that I just don't bother with them these days. Any PS/2 system can be replaced with a Tandy system that is cheaper, easier to find parts for, and more compatible.

Since this post was first, uh, posted I've filled out my PC collection. I have an 8mhz 286 Tandy 1000TX, a 20mhz Tandy 2500SX/20 HD, and a generic 66mhz 486DX/2. That complements my P200MMX, PII266 w/ Voodoo II SLI, dual P3-400 IBM Intellistation, and Athlon 2600XP systems. All hooked up to one KVM, well except for the Tandy 1000TX which uses a CGA monitor. I did also get the Amiga 500 and Atari ST I wanted too. I pretty much have everything I want now, except that I'll get a ZX Spectrum at some point.

Even if it was just the shell, running a smaller pc inside thats running dos, that would be enough. Its more the look than the function. It was THE treat in class, so Id love to have one. Ive been tempted by getting a replica Altair case and building a pc in it aswell, but thats still down the road.

I've never used OS-9, just Color BASIC.

The Tandy Color 3 is pretty sweet. Only problem I've had is that I'll occasionally run into software that only works on models 1/2. I also don't have have any cords for my tape deck, which renders it mostly useless (except for listening to music with 4 C batteries that is!).

I would theoretically like some more retro PCs some day, especially an Amiga and MSX, but I'm not going out of my way to look for them. Ebay prices are insane, so I hope to one day find them on craigslist, etc.

Oh, and it's not nearly old enough to be "retro" but I recently obtained a 2003-era Dell PC tower (Win XP). It has a floppy drive, so I installed DOSBox, and it's a great little gaming machine for the old stuff.

Does anyone know of a website that sells older (non-USB) keyboards and mice?

Where were you all that time I had the nice keyboards for sale?

I probably have some spare PS2 mice though.

Don't some RB members sell those? (AT's and PS/2's)

Also, I miss the Apple Mac from my first university. Finally managed to place on the high-score list in Maelstrom before they were going to throw the machine out. Wound up pulling a mini-Costanza (that Frogger episode of Seinfeld) except I managed to safely get the machine across campus to the loading area. 8) ... and then couldn't get back until Monday and found out it got taken out with the trash.

I still use my fully-functioning 486 as a footstool. My P-100 screen-less laptop was supposed to be a portable media center... except it was just a Pentium 100 and could just barely play MP3s out of its speakers. (Which would make it the "boom box" to the iPod.)

Frick, I just remembered; I think I still have some external tape backup drives. Why do I still have external tape backup drives?
My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis.
Still, don't forget to tip your waitress.
