As far as I could tell this is just them saying that they're going to rerelease them on the PS3. In Japan they start off as disc releases, and we'll probably have them as downloads in other regions. But they wouldn't require you to have the original PSP games. They would be compatible with that PS3 networking app for multiplayer with people on the PSP.

brunoafh wrote:I'm confused by this... why would you have to buy a Japanese PS3? All blu ray discs are region free. Regardless of what region the game you want to play is released in, you can play it on any PS3.
OK

Blu-ray games are region free

UMD games are region free

PSN downloads and store bought goods are region free (you can technically play them on any region PS3) BUT you have to have access to the region store they are distributed through to get them.

I am assuming that PSP HD remakes will be treated as every other digital download sold on PSN - you must have access to that region's store to purchase and download PSP HD remakes from that region.

So I've gotten really off topic here and turned this (unintentionally) into a topic about region encoding. But my point was that it's great that they are remastering these titles, but the new distribution method means I probably won't get to enjoy any of the ones I care about.

That was the whole point of my original post. I'm sorry if I was vague and have derailed the hell out of this thread. :(

Okay, I follow you now.

But still, you aren't restricted from playing games from other regions via PSN (with the exception of Korea). You can just set up a PSN account for that region and buy PSN cards for it.

That may not be the case anymore. It is very possible that PSN stores from outside regions have been locked out. We won't know until Sony puts the store back up. I think that Playstation EU has basically come out and said that those users will no longer be able to access PSN stores outside of their region when the stores go live again. Some guys on NeoGAF were pretty pissed about it.

I think someone was supposed to make a guide about this. Which I'd be interested in reading.

I remember you asked me to in some thread awhile ago. Not sure if that's what you're talking about though.

That would make me an incredibly sad panda.

OK, so I noticed on PlayStation blog's list of PSN releases this week that 3rd Birthday is discounted from $40 to $20. Now here's the weird thing... it says "Third Birthday (PS3)". Has Sony started releasing PSP games for the PS3 online and I didn't realize this? Or is that a typo?
