I have a personal question
Do/Did you guys experience long periods of depression when you were ages 12-16? I have steadily grown these depression periods to about 3-5 days before I can be happy again, and it happens about 1-2 times a month. Is this in any way normal?

Yup -- I've had those days too.
Just do stuff to get your mind off it -- you'll be fine

wow, the people here all sappy and stuff.
Tough up and get a tractor tire, it only goes down hill from here. Weeeeeeeeeee!!!!
[edit]
oddly googling "riding a tractor tire down hill" yields zero results. Why? Do people not do this anymore? I don't think I'd be the man I am today if I didn't stir my brain with the dizzying circular motion of zooming down a cliff side inside of a tractor tire. Staring at the soon to vomit face of you brother who is the only ting that isn't a blur of blue and green.

Re: I have a personal question
Depression can be due to hormonal changes in your body and perhaps being self-conscious of your growing body and image. However, you need to find out the cause of your depression, whether due to stress, social pressure, etc. if you want to get rid of it. You could use meds or alchoholRyaNtheSlayA wrote:Do/Did you guys experience long periods of depression when you were ages 12-16? Hey there, first time poster, long time lurker of this awesome site.
I thought this was a serious enough topic to post a reply on. Its true that everyone experiences depression at one point or another, especially during the sucky teenage years. But constant depression is something to be looked at seriously and is something you honestly don't have to live with.
If the OP feels that he is depressed most of the time, he should really seek out a professional doctor (psychiatrist) who may be able to get him some meds that will help. Now I know that some of you will go "Thats wrong, all those psychs give you meds you don't need" blah blah, but depression is a very real thing. And those meds are basically little packets of serotonin that the brain is missing that causes depression in the first place.
Now if FF13 doesn't get released soon, then I'll be pretty depressed also!

I think this is all part of maturing. My bout with depression hit right after college when I realized how much credit card debt I had accumulated.
I was so depressed that I would come home from work and avoid all contact via phone, IM, and in person with almost everyone. I would just sleep all day and all night.
Like someone mentioned I started to make smaller goals that I could easily meet instead of the one "magical" goal of paying off all the debt at once. These goals started off as saving "x" amount of extra money each week, then month, then year. By doing this my confidence went up and even though I was still in debt I felt better because I was winning the small battles and here I am now at 32 with that debt gone but a mortgage instead.
Live if full of ups and downs, just make sure you choose to take at least one step up when gravity is pulling you down.
