Resident Evil Collection Wii - should it happen???

Post by eastside »

RE 0 Wii, uh, why the hell did this happen???

Anyways...

I never got RE 2 & 3 for GC and they go for $60 together on ebay now. I am hesistant to pick them up thinking of the likelihood that Capcom, the master of milking and whoring their franchises, will be releasing an RE Collection some point in Wii's life time.

Cheap and easy ports with tacked on controls guaranteed to sell...seems irresistable to any publisher.

RE1, 2, 3, 0, and CV collection for Wii?

Should RE 2 &3 get the full remake they never did?

Well seeing as RE:make took up two GC discs which is roughly the size of one DL DVD. I can't see it happening.

I don't think they'll milk the series that much tbh. They may do a CV remake with waggle controls though. As for 2 and 3 they're really dated now. They would seriously need to redo them RE:make style for it to have any kind of appeal apart from nostalgic retro gamers, which lets face it. We're a dying breed.

Besides I hate tank controls! So i'm going to be biased anyway…

Just FYI, one GC Disc = 1.35gb.

Two gamecube discs are a combined total of 3.0GB, which isn't even a single layer, let alone DL.

As elph has already pointed out, a GC disk is roughly 1.5GB (wiki's number btw), meaning that you'd have to have three of them to be about equal to a DVDs 4.7GB of available space. Then again, that's also only a single layer DVD. Considering the DVD drive in the Wii definitely has the ability to read DVD9s, that means 6 whole GCN discs. That's enough for Zero (2), One (2), two (1), and three (1). Add in another disc for CV (2), RE 4 (2), Gaiden :D (~0), Sweet Home (~0), maybe some stuff like the betas for RE4, or perhaps interviews or something.

But the real problem with Capcom is how reluctant they are to invest time and money in doing more than just porting a game. Sure, they're paying for a full HD remix of SF2T, Bionic Commando, Megaman 1, Ghost'n'goblins, but that's about it. I honestly feel shafted when thinking of RE4: wii edition. I mean, there's so much potential, but they're still using the dated engine from RE4 for RE4:WE and UC. I mean, come on. Even if the Wii is just two GCNs taped together, it doesn't mean you couldn't improve the graphics on the games, even if it was just textures. The main thing that's apparent for me even when I originally played RE4 on the cube is that the textures are shat. They may have been..."great" back then, but they ugly and muddy now. I'm glad some homebrew peeps are taking the time to redo all of the textures for the PC version. Capcom could have redone the textures, used Dolby ProLogicIIx for 7.1 (If Factor Five could do it, why can't Capcom?), etc etc. I'm seriously dissapointed with Capcom considering the Wii. Though, I'll be honest, their effort on Okami is pretty good, considering they had little source code to work with.

But, I too agree that they will not likely be doing this anytime soon. No real reason to, tbh.

Crikey I didn't know they were that small! I dunno where I read that they were 4GB~

It's definitely possible then… Wouldn't be very hard for Capcom to port either seeing as the architecture of the wii and GC is the same basically.

I vote nay. The only good RE was 4 IMO~ I can't stand the "push up to walk forward no matter what direction you're facing" play mechanics...

Well, I would absolutely love them to revamp Resident Evil 2. Before RE4 came out, I believed this was the absolute best in the series. RE3 just wasn't that impressive or scary to me, and 1 was fun, but running around as something better than a SWAT member removed some of the fear I should have felt.

So yes, an update.

There would be no point in Capcom spending the money just to print them on Wii Disc's. This is why Nintendo made it so you could play GC on the WII. Just spend the money, buy the GC version and be happy.

Great idea, unfortunately I have already been back tracking since Resident Evil 4. :(

Still with Resident Evil 0 being only a Japanese release I think that the chances of us getting that, let alone a compilation would be unlikely. There is a PS2 Resident Evil compilation though with Code Veronica and the Outbreak games.
