Jet Set Radio - odd save file message

Post by Curlypaul »

Well I finally got round to putting the effort into playing jet set radio. I've never owned a skating game, never seen the appeal, but I felt compelled to play this one just because of the overwhelming following its got on here and the rest of the internet for that matter. Its pretty hard to get past the first bit, it has the hardest tutorial I've ever played, an inability to turn your character on the spot, trying to grind up that crane on the love shockers level almost finished it for me and 3D games really do need to let you take full control of the camera if they are going to be a stupid as this one. Yet despite all this I keep playing it and tonite it seems to have clicked, I've sailed thru the last couple of levels now that I can control what I'm doing and I agree, underneath all that style is a damn good game.

Anyway I'm getting tangental so to the point of the post, while saving I get a message that says something like 'Sega Rally 2 file must be deleted unable to save JGR file'. Its only onscreen for a very short time so I'm not sure of the exact wording, but despite what the message is telling me it does in fact save the game but I'm just curious as to what the problem JSR has with Sega Rally being on there. There are other files on the VMU and there is free space.

I don't own Sega Rally and I haven't encountered that message while playing nor have I heard of that. Perhaps try sending your SR save to another VMU and then save JSR. See how that goes~ :?

That does sound like a plan but I've not had the dremcast long and I only have the 1 vmu. Would be a good idea to grab some more anyway before they start to dissappear.

Play-asia has some pretty cheap. I got 2 controllers and 2 vmus recently for $30.

It could just be a Sega Rally and JSR files messing with each other... Then again, someone has bound to have had both save files on their VMU at one point. Could also be a corrupt file situation~ :?

I would need an xbox first though. Is Future more of a remake than a sequel then? Does it improve on the original that much?

I've played JSRF and it's great as well. It's faster paced as you no longer do the analog motions for the spray painting and when you're grinding/rail riding you can do extra tricks for more speed. They're both great in their own ways and it does feel like a remake a bit but it's in a good way. I've only played about 3~4 hours into it but as soon as I get a 360 I'll be playing all the way through as long as my dual disc works (I borrowed an Xbawks to play it)~
If you liked JSR, you'll probably like JSRF as well. :D
