Last weekend I finally got round to buying a PS3, and got with it Heavy Rain and Yakuza 3.
However, there seems to be a rather significant amount of Screen Tearing going on in Yakuza. I'm playing on an old portable CRT television using the composite *fix'd* cable (white, red, yellow) that came with the console - don't know if this has any impact.
In short, what's causing the screen tearing and is there anything I can do to fix it?
Thankfully, I haven't experienced the problem at any other time other than when playing Yakuza, so at least it seems to be limited to that one game.

Re: Yakuza 3 Screen Tearing
A quick google search shows that a lot of other people might be experiencing the same issue with that particular game.
By the way, you're playing with the COMPOSITE cable. Component is red/green/blue with your red and white audio cables.

oops, yeah composite is what I meant!
I had googled it and also noticed that a lot of other people were experiencing problems but I didn't come across anything saying if it could be fixed or not - that's where the experts on the Racketboy forums can hopefully help!

Re: Yakuza 3 Screen Tearing
It's a closed source game on a closed system with finite system resources. How can it be fixed? Answer: It cannot. There's nothing you can do about it short of figuring out some way of overclocking the PS3 itself. Sorry.

Re: Yakuza 3 Screen Tearing
cool. I just basically wanted to make sure that it wasn't down to me using an old TV or shitty composite cables or anything.
Also, I didn't know if there would be a setting within the PS3 hardware itself - something like how the PS2 had the option to tinker with the graphical output of PS1 games.
Edit: Just to bring some closure to the thread, I decided to do a little experiment:
I hooked my PS3 up to my brother's HDTV and booted up Yakuza, and bam - no screen tearing at all. So all in all, looks like my old SDTV simply can't cope. Good news in that regard, as it means the game itself is fine, and once I finally upgrade to a new TV I'll be sorted
