MVS 4 slot help

Post by vlame »

My friend was given a 4 slot non-working, what tools does he need to open it? Any idea on good sites for repair tutorials?

The first one has a load of threads about NeoGeo boards, worth a look.

Is the whole thing non-working? All you should need to check it out are little phillips screwdrivers for the boards and large ones for the cab. If the cab won't even fire up, check the PS. Some of the larger power supplies have knobs that control power output. If you've got 4 carts you'll need it turned all the way up. Next check all wire connections - careful around the monitor.

On the board, check the battery first for corrosion and leaks. Then check all the lines. If it's the board that isn't working then it should be something obvious.

Easiest way to check if it's the board is to hook up another working one in the cab and see if that works.

Have fun - I love taking apart and dissecting cabs! Hope the above helps. I'm no expert.

My 2 slot cab was stapled. I had to pry the wood off, witch destroyed it. So I just cut another back piece and screwed it in. Now all I need is a Phillips screwdriver. I hate when things are stapled.

That would have been more work than I wanted to do. At first I tried, but chipped the wood anyway. Didn't seem worth it to me if I ever need to take it off much, I been in the back twice now. I have a gently worn cab anyway. No one will every know unless I show them and now I have easy access to what ever I may need.

My 6 slot has two large removable wood panels in the back each attached with 4 screws. One to access the monitor in the chasis and one below for access to the PS and stacked 6 slot PCBs (also screwed together with battery on the bottom board) so yeah.

Do the smaller MVS cabs really not have access panels on the back!?

It looked like mine was originally staples and all. The psu was replaced by the previous owner and it looked like he just cut a bottom section out to get to it, cause it was missing when I got it. The top two sections look as they were done with staples from the factory, but I could be wrong. Either way no staples for me now. Anyone else have any other examples?

my friend said the screws look like gamebits, but he could be mistaken.
